History
Hektu was a Dakkamite who lived on his people's homeworld of Dakkam with his wife Soja.[2] At one time he was known as his planet's greatest astronomer.[3]
At some point after his wife had either given birth to their son or had become pregnant, Hektu's observations of Dakkam's sun led him to believe that it was going to go nova in a year. Hektu brought his theory to the ruling Triumvirate and asked them to give him funds to build a fleet of spaceships that could take the Dakkamite people to a different solar system. The Triumvirate was initially amused by Hektu's theory but when he described in graphic detail how Dakkam would be destroyed they ceased to find him amusing. The leader of the Triumvirate, Ninox, denounced his theories as morbid fantasies and called him mad, then warned Hektu that, if he tried to spread his ridiculous theories among the populace or in any way disturbed Dakkam's calm, he would be put away for life.[2]
Although he still wanted to save his people, Hektu realized that he couldn't do anything for them if their society didn't wish to be bothered, so he instead concentrated on saving his family. Unaware that the Triumvirate had decided to have him discretely watched, Hektu worked for six Earth-months to build a spaceship with D-warp engines that could carry his family away from Dakkam to anywhere in the galaxy.
After the spaceship was finished, Hektu and Soja were preparing to leave with their infant son when the Internal Security Police burst into the launch bay. Having known of Hektu's spacecraft, the Triumvirate had decided that Dakkam's billions should never look upon it or hear Haktu's mad theories, so the police had been sent to seize the spacecraft and to silence Hektu, which they did by killing him with a single shot. Since Soja was a witness and could speak out about Hektu's death and why he had been killed, the police also shot Soja, but she remained alive just long enough to get their son into the spaceship and pull the lever that launched it into space.[2]
After a year had passed and Dakkam's sun had not gone nova, it was concluded that Hektu had gone mad. However, the Triumvirate now became concerned that Hektu's son Wundarr might one day return to Dakkam to avenge his father's death. To prevent that from happening, they sent Zeneg, Tuumar and a Mortoid robot assassin to search out and kill Wundarr. The Dakkamites found WUndarr on Earth, twenty-two years after he had crashed there, and attempted to eliminate him, but he was protected by the Thing and the Sub-Mariner who destroyed the robot and forced the two Dakkamites to flee.[3]Notes
- In Quasar #4, after confronting the Aquarian and realizing who he was, Quantum called him the son of "Zeneg the Renegade" and declared that his father had been a lunatic and a traitor to the Fatherworld. However, since the profile on the Dakkamites that was later published in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z Update #4 did not acknowledge this apparent change, it seems likely that Quantum's statement has been dismissed as a case of him, in a moment of stress, just getting Hektu's name confused with that of one of the assassins who had been sent to Earth to kill Wundarr.
