This future was originally the preordained 61st Century of Earth-6160, an emerging utopian post-scarcity, post-imperialist intergalactic society protected by the 250,000 Guardians of the Galaxy, who watched over 400 million inhabited worlds and the cosmos at large, born out of the Age of Heroes that preceded them 4000 years ago.^[1]

Reality began to unravel, however, when the Maker of Earth-1610 appeared in 1963 and began to reshape the history of the 20th and 21st centuries through a time machine called the Immortus Engine. In a last-ditch attempt to survive, the civilizations of the universe agreed to contain the entirety of their time period in a Century-Ship and flee into the Superflow, the information space between universes that exists outside of time. However, they were met with resistance from a time-traveling conqueror and his genetic army of super-soldiers, while the 61st Century failed to resist the re-shaping of the universe.^[1]

After the total reshaping of history, the new 61st Century was now under the total control of the Maker and his Children of Tomorrow, and became a battleground between his forces and those of Kang. During this reshaped period of time, Celestial activity was also glimpsed.^[1]
