Quote1 Again you summon us, Damisa-Sarki. Again the inane and living prevail upon the illustrious and dead. Quote2
Benhazin[src]

Benhazin was a Black Panther and King of Wakanda.

History

Benhazin's reign was marked by unprecedented drought. To remedy this, Benhazin did what almost no Wakandan had ever done before: seeking the assistance of Wakanda's neighbors in Niganda. Under a deal made by Benhazin, the two peoples shared the bounty of the Alkama Fields between their two countries, and the nations went through a period of prosperity. The Hyena Clan's grudge against the Panther Tribe, however, led them to stealing the harvests of both nations. This, in turn, caused the Wakandans and Nigandans to blame each other, and the conflict broke out into a war. Benhazin led the Wakandans to victory, being forced to completely annex the Aklama Fields, and then set his sights on the Hyena Clan, rooting out every Hyena cell in the country and banishing them from Wakanda, seemingly forever.[2]

During his reign, Benhazin also opened the Dora Milaje initiations (which were previously reserved to barren women) to all women of all tribes, which caused their numbers to triple, as tribes felt the proximity to the king was the opportunity to have one of their one become the queen.[1]

Legacy[]

Though the Hyena Clan had deceived both nations,[2] the Nigandan people never forgave Wakanda for the annexing of the Alkama Fields that happened under Benhazin's rule, seeing the food it provided as essential to Wakanda becoming region's strongest nation in the region, even more so than the vibranium supplied by Mena Ngai.[3]

Although Benhazin never consorted with the Dora, from then on they forever came to be seen as potential wives for the king.[4][5][1]

Centuries later, Benhazin was one of the many former rulers of Wakanda whose spirits T'Challa had the ability to summon for counsel as the King of the Necropolis.[6]

His name was also among the names of former Wakandan rulers used by explorers of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, who named the Benhazin System after him.[citation needed]
