History
The early history of the Avengers mirrors that of their Earth-616 counterparts.
The Avengers were once Earth's mightiest heroes, dedicated to protecting the people of the world from any threats. They did this successfully until the events of H-Day. As part of his schemes, Ultron enhanced a group of supervillains and leaked all the secret identities of superhuman vigilantes. The villains targeted the heroes' loved ones to set traps, culminating in a giant battle that leveled the city of Boston, leaving hundreds dead. Most of the death count came at the hands of founding Avenger Bruce Banner, whom Ultron had found a way to take control of.[1]
The Avengers and other vigilantes were blamed for the destruction, leading to the dissolution of the group and causing the public to vote for increasingly authoritarian measures against superhuman vigilantism, resulting in the rise of a draconian surveillance state policed by S.H.I.E.L.D.[1]See Also
