Hi William:

Your help would be much appreciated on the history of the gay rights movement, in articles Gay rights and Gay rights in the United States. It's pretty dubious and shallow. I mostly don't have access to printed sources, and I was only able to find a few cursory or tertiary sources online.

Adding links to one's own works, whether articles, websites, or both, is a minor form of self-promotion which is frowned upon generally. Since the works are few in number, academic and non-commercial, there is little harm. As you may imagine, we get many links which are none of those three things. It appears that you may not have received the answer to the query that you left on Will Beback's talk page. If so, the relevant guidelines are at WP:SPAM and WP:EL. Regarding guidelines and policies; they are edited in much the same chaotic manner as the articles. Consequently, they may be redundant contradictory and inchoate. You removed a reference in Gay rights which was paired to a Harvard style citation for the text "By 1969, there were dozens of homophile organizations and publications in the U.S." I assume that you meant to replace the reference with this addition:

Bullough, Vern L. (ed.) Before Stonewall: Activists for Gay and Lesbian Rights in Historical Context. Harrington Park Press, 2002.

However, this change broke the Harvard style citation. If you change a Harvard style reference, please remember to change both parts. It is critical to preserve references in controversial articles that are subject to vandalism. I would welcome your input in editing the article and providing good references, which this article desperately needs.

I note that you have reverted some of your earlier edits of Gay rights. Thank you. However, as a result, there is no page-bottom reference for "By 1969, there were dozens of homophile organizations and publications in the U.S." The original reference was to your online book review (not the book):

which I thought would do in a pinch since I did not have the book and the online reference was to a review by a historian of a history book. On January 11, you appeared to replace it with a reference to the book:

which is okay if it is correct, but then you deleted this on January 20, which now leaves no bottom reference.

If you are knowledgable about LGBT rights, etc, write about a topic that doesn't directly involve you, or even one that involves you such as outing. If you continue to write articles about your boss, I will cheerfully rewrite for NPOV or grammatical mistakes, etc, BUT I still don't advise this way to start an article, and if there is any sugarcoating in your version, other editors will notice and fix them. Sorry WP, it did come off as a bit inimical at first. What I meant is that myself and others will review the article for grammar and NPOV, much as my own contributions are modified in return. I'm not commanding or anything about other topics, but it is a suggestion is all. Also, it just isn't a good idea for you to write articles about someone you know personally, at least for quality articles. Expect other editors to pay especiall attention to that sort of thing. Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you. Project News The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together. The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system. The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English. Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub! There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this. A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute. With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on. It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. Good luck! Project News With such rapid development of the project, it was decided that a Coordinator was needed to ensure all the fiddly maintenence was kept up. Elections were held and Dev920 (talk · contribs) has been elected Coordinator for the next three months. She said "I am honoured and proud to be at the helm of such a fantastic WikiProject and look forward to our future". Congratulations Dev! The assessment system continues to be a great success, we have tagged over 5200 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system. Jumpaclass is proving to be quite successful! The winner at the end of the year gets to pick the January collaboration, so sign up and get going! Or challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub! A new Community department has been set up to foster community amongst our members. It mostly acts as other WikiProjects' Outreach department, but also has a Quilt to which every member is entitled to add a square containing anything of their choice. The peer review is not getting much custom - please notice you can cross-list other peer reviews from different projects that also fall within our scope. Many people still seem to be unaware that the Deletion sorting subpage exists for XfDs to be listed: please use and watch that page instead of issuing "alerts" for ordinary AfDs on the project talkpage. Issue V - April 3, 2007 Monthly Challenge: Article News Three articles were promoted to Featured Article status this month: Homer's Phobia (2007-03-26), Trembling Before G-d (2007-03-15) and Andrew Van De Kamp (2007-03-30). Congratulations to Gran2 and Dev920 (twice!) respectively for all their hard work! Three new articles appeared on the Main Page as Did you know? items: Classification of transsexuals (2007-03-02), Steve Stanton (2007-03-08) and Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus (2007-03-23), started by Lwollert, Yksin and MusicMen, respectively. DavidShankBone deserves kudos for his current drive to provide quality LGBT photos from the NYC area. One of the more recent photos is posted on Michael Musto, and you can check out the gallery on David's user page. Project News There is now the beginning of a list of core topics to possibly be included in the Wikipedia 1.0 release. Your suggestions are welcome; there may be many core LGBT topics still missing. We have a list of people categorized as LGBT whose articles need to be checked for reliable sourcing. This effort is necessary and urgent, to comply with Wikipedia's policy on living persons. Please take a few moments to source one article; if you've got time, do another. SatyrTN identified all the articles that were in subcategories of Category:LGBT but not yet tagged with the project's banner, about 1,400 articles. These have been completed, though SatyrBot will make periodic runs through the cats to find any new entries. Thanks Satyr! The number of articles within our project's spectrum (6,667 currently) should now be relatively stable and only grow with article creation. However, if you find a category that should be included, please let SatyrTN know so it can be included in the bots runs. Work is underway to improve the LGBT Portal. I am currently involved in a discussion about certain contents of the article about pederasty. We cannot quite agree on the precise meaning of a quote from your article Sexual customs of the ancient Greeks in 'Human Sexuality: An Encyclopedia':

A proper understanding of Greek history should help to discredit homophobia as such and even the especially virulent hatred of homosexual pederasty, its most persecuted but historically most prevalent variation.

Is this meant to imply that pederasty is the historically most prevalent variation of homosexuality? Or that homosexual pederasty is the historically most prevalent variation of pederasty?
