- "Why do I have to do everything?"
- ―-The Joker Henchman
The Joker Henchman is a minifigure from the Batman and Super Heroes themes.
Description[]
Batman[]
In this variation, his torso is plain purple to match The Joker's jacket colour. Apart from this, he is basically the same as the Two-Face Henchman and Mr. Freeze Henchman, wearing black hats and shades, flesh hands, along with unprinted grey legs.
Super Heroes[]
In this variation, the henchman's design is more detailed than the previous variation. He wears a lime green jacket with a zipper and pockets. At the back of the jacket is Joker's face printed against an orange circle with "The Joker" printed beneath it. Under the jacket he wears a white sweatshirt. His arms are also lime green. He has a black hat and black gloves. His legs are purple and unprinted. His head is light nougat with his face partly painted white, along with red eyebrows, blue eyeshadow, red lips, and red cheeks.
Construction[]
This variant comes with a construction hard hat. The face is similar to the previous, but bent into an angry expression. His torso is orange, printed with an orange construction vest, with purple taking place of bright green. He has a white shirt with light green stripes, white arms and black gloved hands. The back is printed with The Joker painted onto the vest with runs on the bottom of the letters and the bottom of the vest bears the word "construction" but with the first three letters crossed out and replaced with "de" to create "destruction". His legs are purple.
In the Video Games[]
In LEGO Batman: The Videogame[]
The Joker Henchmen as detailed appears as both an enemy and as playable characters in LEGO Batman: The Videogame, but are called Joker Goons, while Joker Henchman refers to a different character. The Joker Goon looks like first version detalied above, with a plain purple jacket, a knit cap, and grey trousers while the Henchman looks like a clown with a purple beret, a stern white head with red lips, a purple torso with special design (green coveralls with suspenders over a purple jacket and yellow bow tie), purple arms, white hands, and green legs for the trousers. They are also armed with a machine gun to fight the heroes.
In the Handheld DS version of the game, the Joker Goon and Joker Henchman both share the same design and have a distinct design from the main versions, which looks slightly more refined. Instead of green coveralls with suspenders and plain-colored jackets, they now wear a purple knit cap atop a white-colored head and have a purple-colored suit jacket with a darker purple dress shirt underneath it on their torso, complete with a big red bow tie and big red fluffy buttons. Finally, they use the same green trousers as before, but now tucked underneath their suits.
In LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes[]
In LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the Joker henchman comes with at least three variations. One of the variations is identical to his appearance in the box set, but is only playable on handheld versions or using extra toggle. This variation is completely remodeled from the precious game. The Joker henchman now wears a black knit cap and a lime green jacket with a light grey sweatshirt visible underneath it along with purple trousers. Additionally, they now simply have face paint on the front of their heads, on their faces instead of having the whole head painted white.
The Clown Goon has an appearance very similar compared to the set, but his hat is replaced by the red hairpiece previously used by Circus Clown and his head is completely painted white, showing only his eyes and mouth.
The Mime Goon also has a completely different design; they wear the Mime's black beret, a striped shirt with black and white stripes and a black vest on top of that, complete with matching black or purple trousers and white gloved hands. The back printing of his vest is similar to printing on the standard variation's jacket, but the background color is purple instead of lime green. The Mime Goon's head is completely painted white, similar to the Clown Goon.
The Heavy Joker Goon is almost identical to the Mime Goon, but only appears in handheld versions of the game, seemingly as a replacement for the latter. He has an evil grin and the purple lining on his shirt is replaced by lime green lining.
In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham[]
In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham the Joker Henchman exists in two variations; the first variation looks more or less the same as the 2012 suit version, but with a more modern gun and does not appear on the handheld DS version. The second variation is much more futuristic and dressed in spaceflight gear suitable for the space setting. His knit cap has been replaced with a transparent bubble helmet and his usual lime green jacket and purple trousers have been replaced with a simple space suit of the same color scheme, with a lime green torso and purple legs. The lime green torso has a frontal chestplate and a rlapel ed flower on the front and Joker face logos on both sides and on both arms while the legs are printed with knee joints and boot soles. Their weapons are the new "stud-shooters" often featured in 2014 Star Wars sets, though on the handheld DS version they instead use a more ordinary laser pistol. Their faces are tan with white makeup along the face, much like their 2012 and 2014 counterparts.
In LEGO DC Super-Villains[]
In LEGO DC Super-Villains the Joker Henchman looks similar to the box set version; with a lime green jacket with a zipper and pockets and a white sweatshirt underneath it along with purple trousers, black gloves and a black cap. At the back of the jacket is Joker's face printed against an orange circle with "The Joker" printed beneath it. One difference from the previous games is that the Joker Henchman now wields a red flintlock pistol as his weapon of choice. A second variation of the Joker Henchman also exists, which replaces the regular lime green jacket with one that has red stripes and purple pockets and details. Both male and female versions exist, with the latter not wearing any headwear and instead being distinguishable by their hairpieces. In the game. they can be found wandering around the streets of East Gotham around the Monarch Theater, Crime Alley and Ace Chemicals as well as populating the Amusement Mile.
Background[]
The Joker Henchmen are, simply put, Joker's henchmen. They serve multiple purposes, sometimes as guards, sometimes to fly the Joker's Helicopter and drive other Joker-related vehicles like trucks and other miscellaneous jobs that tie into carrying out Joker's different schemes and plans as well as running his criminal organisation. Most often, however, they function as enemies to fight the player, using either guns, melee weapons or other gadgets. In other circumstances they function as muscle and workers; as an armed force to engage the police and law enforcement and as a labor force to do the heavy lifting and grunt work, freeing up Joker to pursue his schemes at his leisure.
Notes[]
- They are simply referred to as Henchmen on the official website and the box art regardless of their appearance, seemingly disregarding the existence of the Joker Goon.
- Although, it is ironic that goon and henchman were a similar thing.
- The Joker's goons in LEGO Batman: The Videogame bear some resemblance of the Joker's goons from the 1989 Batman movie, and the game does take some inspiration from that movie.
- In LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, the henchman uses the Circus Clown's head piece.
- The 2014 henchman was the first minifigure to have a Yellow Hard Hat.
- Lawrence the boombox goon is one of the only henchmen from the 1989 film appearing in Lego form.
