Kamen Rider Eyecatch 1

The first eyecatch for Kamen Rider, the original series, from episode 1, The Eerie Man Spider.

An eyecatch (アイキャッチ, aikyatchi) or internal eyecatch is a scene or illustration used to begin and end a commercial break in a Japanese TV program, especially in anime and tokusatsu shows, such as Kamen Rider, similar to how "bumpers" into/out of commercial breaks are used in the United States. The term is used, in Japan, to refer to all kinds of bumpers.

Eyecatches[]

Showa Era[]

Eyecatches of Showa era Kamen Rider Series featured illustrations of the protagonist Kamen Riders.

Heisei Era[]

Beginning with the Heisei Kamen Rider series, eyecatches are no longer a prominent feature in the show. Instead, the Heisei era started the trend of closing screens to mark the end of an episode.

However, the web series Drive Saga: Kamen Rider Brain is an exception to this since it is made to commemorate the end of the Heisei era while ironically parodying elements from the Showa era.

Reiwa Era[]

Kamen Rider Saber[]

Kamen Rider Saber reintroduced eyecatches for the first time since Black RX. Much like the Closing Screens, the eyecatch of each episode shows one or more Wonder/Alter Ride Book used by the Riders or Megid Mamonos in the episode. The spellings on it are also shown. Each book will spin depending on what type of book it is: If it is a Wonder Ride Book, then the book will spin clockwise, and will spin the opposite way if it is an Alter Ride Book.

Others[]

Like many anime, Fuuto PI also featured eyecatches. The eyecatch of each episode shows one of the characters/Kamen Riders appeared in the episode. The show's logo placed in the bottom left or right corner.

The Hyper Battle DVD Kamen Rider Revice: Becoming Rider No. 2~♪ also featured a special eyecatch especially for the 50th anniversary.

Eyecatch was also revived in Release Commemoration Special Broadcast: Movie "Shin Kamen Rider" Premise / Act 1 Kumo Augment-01 TV special and the Blu-Ray bonus re-edited version of the film.
