~ Mine dying in Tatsumi's arms after having given her life to destroy General Budo in the anime. |
Mine is one of the tritagonists (alongside Leone) of the manga and anime series Akame ga Kill!. She is a self pro-claimed "genius sniper", as well as being a sharp-tongued and quick-witted member of the assassin's group, Night Raid. Despite not thinking much of Tatsumi at first, she slowly falls in love with him and eventually becomes his girlfriend and wife. After exhausting all her power to save Tatsumi, Mine falls into a comatose state. In the anime, she dies instead of falling into a coma.
She is voiced by Yukari Tamura in Japanese and by Christina Kelly in English.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Admirable?[]
Both versions[]
- Her main motivation for helping the revolution is so that no one goes through discrimination, like she did when she was little.
- She, along with her companions, killed several corrupt people in the Empire on Najenda's orders.
- With one shot, she killed Iokal, Honest's corrupt relative, making sure not to hit those close to him.
- When fighting Seryu Ubiquitous and her pet, Koro, she distracts the latter to prevent him from killing Sheele.
- She cares a lot about Sheele, to the point of wanting to avenge her death by killing her killer, Seryu.
- She saves Tatsumi in the fight with Kaku, killing the latter and recovering Ecstasy, Sheele's Imperial Arm.
- Although she tried to kill Kurome when Akame stated that it was something only she should do, she only did it so that Akame wouldn't have to suffer for killing her own sister, and even tried to ensure that her death was quick and painless.
- Despite her hatred for Seryu, stating that she will kill her without mercy and telling her to her face that she is rotten like her mentors, she recognizes that she was just a soldier doing her job, showing that she has honor towards her opponents, even though she is a assassin.
- She splits Seryu in half and tries to kill her to avenge Sheele, but fails due to Pumpkin overheating.
- Despite her mistreatment of Tatsumi at the beginning of the work, she naturally distrusts strangers due to her traumatic past and, in any case, she subverts her contempt for Tatsumi, warming up to him and falling in love with the boy, wanting his safety and well-being.
Canon[]
- She recognizes the goodness in the Leader of The Path of Peace and that he is a good leader, despite not being a capable leader.
- In the mission to kill Bolic, although she ambushed Wave and sent him flying, she only did so to protect herself, Akame, and Lubbock. And anyway, it was justifiable, given that Wave was trying to kill them without mercy.
- She tries to console Tatsumi after Susanoo's death.
- She shoots Cosmina to kill her, and while it is technically a dirty trick, since she shoots by her back, it was justifiable given that Cosmina is a Near Pure Evil who was about to sexually abuse Run's dying body, so she certainly deserved that.
- She trains to improve her combat skills so she can protect Tatsumi.
- She is the first to want to go to the Capital's coliseum to try to save Tatsumi from his public execution.
- Face Esdeath, the most powerful in the Empire, head on in order to save Tatsumi, something that only Akame and Tatsumi managed to do without dying or suffering an injury that would incapacitate them (Since Esdeath blinded and crippled Najenda and Leone was almost mutilated by her in the manga).
- She musters her last efforts to kill Budo and save her companions, sacrificing her Imperial Arm and falling into a coma.
Anime exclusive[]
- She intimidates two men who were attacking a refugee, ordering them to stop intimidating people weaker than them.
- She sacrifices her life to stop Budo and save her companions, in her last breaths, she tells Tatsumi that she is proud to have fallen in love with him.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- The most predictable reason why Mine can't be NPG or beyond is because she's extremely douchey. Although she overcomes most of her bad behavior, she still has many moments of assholery that she doesn't subvert, such as her constant aggression towards Tatsumi, her insults towards him, and other moments where she was unnecessarily rude, such as calling him a redneck because he doesn't know Zank.
- In an exclusive scene from the anime, she tried to shoot him with Pumpkin for coming into her room and seeing her in her underwear. While her anger was understandable, given that Tatsumi barged into her room without knocking on the door and that the scene is played for laughs, it doesn't change the fact that she attempted to use lethal force against her own teammate for trivial reasons.
- Even disregarding her relationship with Tatsumi, she can still be quite an asshole towards her other companions, as when she insults Lubbock for not having the courage to declare himself to Najenda, stating that he would be rejected anyway, without even taking into account that she has already been through what he was going through.
- She is extremely arrogant, always declaring herself as a “genius sniper”, rarely admitting when she fails, and stating to Tatsumi during their mission that he is her “employee”, boasting that he has to do whatever she says.
- As she is an assassin, she is extremely lethal towards her targets. However, taking into account how AGK's villains are, that everyone Night Raid targets are corrupt, that they always check their sources and that Mine, most of the time, grants them a quick death - unlike Leone, who shows sadistic joy in killing -, this is a minor prevention.
- She has a “Kick the Dog” moment in the manga where she threatens to send Tatsumi to some world from another manga, which is extremely lethal and violent. Although it is not meant to be taken seriously, Mine still tried to send Tatsumi to probable certain death, something too jerkass and lethal for her to be anything other than an Inconsistently Admirable.
