"Sorry for the trouble, thanks."

— Katzo, after being rescued by Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika in An Encounter in the Storm

Katzo (カッツォ, Kattso) is a crewman under the Captain of the ship that takes Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio to Dolle Harbor.[1]

Appearance[]

Katzo's design differs in each adaptation. In the original manga, Katzo was a minor background character with no characterization, and thus, had a rather generic look (with very short hair and a long-sleeved shirt). In the 1999 anime adaptation, he is given a more thuggish look, with slightly longer spiky brown hair, a red bandana, a grey shirt, and a necklace of some sort. In the 2011 anime adaptation, Katzo is given a timid and frail-looking appearance, with an orange shirt, a yellow handkerchief around his neck, and a light blue bandana. Katzo's hair is also longer, and more reddish-brown.

Personality[]

While his original personality in the manga is unknown (due to being a minor background character), Katzo is given a different character in each anime adaptation. The Nippon Animation series sees Katzo as more of a ruffian, whereas he is frailer and milquetoast in the Madhouse adaptation.

Plot[]

Hunter Exam arc[]

On the way to Dolle Harbor, Leorio and Kurapika have an argument which they decide to end with a fight out on the deck when a storm is coming. Just before the fight can start, Katzo is knocked off the deck by a piece of wood broken off from a yard. He is saved at the last moment thanks to the combined effort of Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio. After that Kurapika and Leorio make up with each other.[1]
