The story of Honkai Impact 3 is spread across in-game main story chapters, referred to simply as "Story", Chronicles, and Events as well as Manga, Anime, and Visual Novels found outside the game.
This page will focus mostly on the main chapters but will link and reference events described elsewhere. All story chapters contain multiple stages with a voiced storyline covering the mainline plot of the game, often featuring multiple trial characters for Captains to try out.

The Moon's Origin and Finality[ | ]
Where Dreams Began[ | ]
Selene, a powerful Anti-Entropy battleship, is heading straight towards Sapphire, a metropolis with around 30 million people in it, totally unmanned. St. Freya Valkyries Kiana Kaslana, Raiden Mei, and Bronya Zaychik are tasked with gaining control of the aircraft and stopping it from crashing into the city while their instructor Murata Himeko is providing aid via comms. The mission is completed successfully, but not without twists and turns involving the dormant 3rd Herrscher inside Mei, Bronya's brain chip going haywire, and a mysterious letter hinting at Kiana's future.
Kiana's worst nightmare, Valkyrie Examination, is approaching fast. If she fails the examination, her Valkyrie rank will go down and her dream of becoming A-rank will be potentially crushed forever. With the help of her two old friends as well as a new one, the class monitor Fu Hua, Kiana studies hard during the day and everything seems to go smoothly. Even Himeko is personally trying to help her worst student avoid demotion. Yet, in her dreams, she meets an entity who claims to be a Herrscher of the Void - the world's worst enemy who's supposed to have died many years ago...
The End of Destiny[ | ]
Kiana and her friends are assigned to a mission at Oceania Branch, New Zealand to recover Gem of Desire which said to contain powerful Honkai energy. A surprising twist happens when they find out that the gem is now contained within a girl on a wheelchair. However, their time on the location is limited as Anti-Entropy's massive troops are arriving soon with a similar objective.
Kiana, Theresa, and Himeko arrive at the perimeter of the ME Corp HQ building on a stealth mission to rescue Mei, Bronya, and Wendy who are said to be held inside according to their intel. They find out the building is heavily fortified and crawling with guards inside and out. This mission is not so simple to execute as they thought.
Desperate to save Bronya, Theresa resorts to the St. Freya underground church where the most advanced Schicksal biotechnology resides but almost all of the results have been blocked by top secret classification, saves for one dated the day of 2nd Honkai War. Having no other choice, Theresa teleports in to investigate, followed by Kiana who is sneaking behind. Unbeknown to Kiana, this is the day whereby many significant events have happened, and a chance to verify the truths about the Void's tales.
Kiana and Cecilia battle their way to reach 2nd Herrscher while Theresa has to retreat after being called back by Overseer Otto. During their journey, Kiana finds and experiences strange events, namely a torn dairy detailing their ordeal separated from their mom, playing a game on a lift terminal as well as rewind time to where Kiana is trapped into the safe house baited by Cecilia after witnessing unfavourable outcome. Kiana tries very hard to change the outcome, until her friends come to get her out from her own vicious cycle, from Sirin's doing.

In an urgent mission, Kiana, Mei, and Bronya captured Selene, an unmanned Anti-Entropy battleship.
Affected by the energy in its engine, Bronya's and Kiana's bodies experienced strange conditions one after another. An impossible voice that claimed to be the 2nd Herrscher spoke in Kiana's dream:
"Fear not. I will appear time and again in your worst nightmares."

Under the Falling Sky[ | ]
After being captured by Schicksal, numerous attempts to wake Kiana up fail. However, the increased Honkai energy within Kiana has awakened the Herrscher of the Void from within and summons many Honkai beasts, including the Judgment-class Honkai Dragon, Benares, which wakes up from its slumber from within the ruins of the 2nd Honkai Eruption. Overseer Otto orders all Valkyries to be on high alert as well as set up the highest defense mechanisms to protect the headquarters. Meanwhile, a transport ship known as Helios is flying by towards the Schicksal headquarters, and the people inside are planning a raid with the help of an unlikely ally.
The Alliance is targeting Air Terminal 3 of Schicksal, while the Valkyries take control of the towers. Kiana turns out to be inside Helheim Labs, found out by Einstein and Tesla. After Fu Hua returned to the HQ, she stops Rita from harming them further and agrees to take her to the Church. Mei fought alone against the Honkai Beasts hordes to help Hyperion arrive at the labs for the next plan.

Curious, Kiana followed Theresa into the simulated battlefield of the 2nd Eruption. There, she met her parents and defeated the 2nd Herrscher with them.
However, it was all a trick of the 2nd Herrscher Sirin: It was a phantom she created from Kiana's longing for her parents.
Otto, the Overseer of Schicksal, suddenly made his move. He ordered Fu Hua to bring Kiana to Schicksal HQ by force...

The awakening of the Herrscher of the Void sent the world into a Great Eruption.
In order to locate Kiana, both Schicksal and Anti-Entropy acted.
Meanwhile, Theresa and company received a message from Cocolia, an Anti-Entropy Enforcer: Schicksal had sent out troops to seize the Gem of Desire and was in dire need of support.
The Hyperion crew was faced with a difficult decision...

After the Great Eruption, disaster swept across the land and darkness enveloped humanity.
Kiana, who wandered in Arc City to battle Honkai alone, made peace with Fu Hua and learned to subdue the power of the Void temporarily.
Only those were far from enough. As soon as Kiana showed weakness, the Herrscher persona would resurface.
Somewhere dark and damp, World Serpent's hunt had just begun...

When Mei found Kiana, World Serpent was about to conduct a large-scale stigma experiment by engulfing the city in a Honkai eruption.
By utilizing the power of the Void, Kiana pushed the engine into the night sky far above the city.
World Serpent's plot quietly dissipated in the flash. The unsung hero who saved the city, however, was falling from the sky helplessly.
Mei dashed toward her with all her power, yet was still a step too late.

The Herrscher core was corrupting Kiana physically and the Honkai phenomena in Nagazora was worsening.
In order to protect Kiana and Nagazora, Mei decided to face her fate and become the true Herrscher of Thunder.
Having accepted Kevin's terms, she split up with her friends and join World Serpent.
A new Herrscher would soon befall the world, and tip its balance once more.

In the Battle of Schicksal, Fu Hua transferred her sentience into a feather of Fenghuang Down, rendering her body an empty shell.
Fu Hua had yet to realize that, in the boundless darkness, a new sentience was forming in that shell...

Back in Nagazora, Otto and Kevin had struck a deal: He would aid Kevin's Project Stigma should Kevin hand him the 2nd Divine Key: Cosmic Juggernaut.
The successful test linking of the bubble universe and the Imaginary Tree marked the fruition of the Overseer's lifelong plan.
The die was cast. The dusty wheels of fortune have begun turning once again.

To unveil the Will of Honkai's true face, Mei went to a secret site where the World Serpent agents took trials: Elysian Realm.
She met the Thirteen Flame-Chasers and followed them to the deepest corner of this database, where all secrets converged.

The Day of Transcending Finality[ | ]

Mei continued to look for the truth in Elysia's memory space, a strange place named "Elysium Everlasting".
As before, her journey was full of thistles and thorns: Flame-Chasers were disappearing one after another and there was no end to all their suspicions. At last, everything pointed to one uninvited guest—Herrscher of Corruption. To stop its corruption, Mei, along with the other Flame-Chasers, used her own memories to recreate a memory replica of Elysia and found out the greatest secret among the Flame-Chasers—everything about the 13th Herrscher.
At the journey's end, with the combined powers of the Thirteen Flame-Chasers, the Elysian Realm vanished with the Herrscher of Corruption in it. Mei, who left beforehand under Elysia's protection, finally bade the Pioneers' past farewell while walking towards the future solely made for the successor.
