“ | It was hard for all my brothers. That shadow Tywin cast was long and black, and each of them had to struggle to find a little sun. Tygett tried to be his own man, but he could never match your father, and that just made him angrier as the years went by. | „ |
~ Genna Lannister on Tygett Lannister. |
Ser Tygett Lannister, called Tyg by his family, is a minor character in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. He is a knight of House Lannister, and one of the sons of Lord Tytos Lannister. He one of the younger brothers of Lord Tywin Lannister.
Personality[]
In battle, Tygett is a man of considerable prowess. Unlike his older brother, Ser Kevan Lannister, he has a bad relationship with his eldest brother Tywin, as Tygett strongly resents of having to live under Tywin's own shadow. Despite his hatred of Tywin, Tygett is known to be kind towards his nephew Tyrion Lannister.
Biography[]
Tygett Lannister is born in 250 AC as the fourth child of Lord Tytos Lannister by Lady Jeyne Marbrand and was the third of four brother. As Tygett has a difficult relationship with Tywin Lannister, his eldest brother, he always felt that he is living under Tywin's shadow. No matter how hard he tried, he failed to be a match for his brother, which caused Tygett to hate him even more.
During the War of the Ninepenny Kings, Tygett engaged in his first battle and killed a man and later three more, including a knight of the sellsword company known as the Golden Company. Although Tywin and his brother Kevan earned knighthoods following the war, Tygett was too young to earn his spurs since he was just ten-years-old at the time. Despite this, however, his skill and courage were remarked upon. According to a semi-canon source, Tygett served as a squire at the time when Tywin crushed the Reyne-Tarbeck revolt in 261 AC. Tyg was eventually knighted.
When he was sixteen years old, during his coming of age tour, Ser Tygett visited the Free Cities of the eastern continent of Essos. By 270 AC, the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, came to disregard Tywin Lannister, who served as his Hand of the King, due to their deteriorating relationship. When Tywin tried to get King Aerys to name his brother Tygett as master-at-arms at the Red Keep, the Mad King appoints Ser Willem Darry instead out of spite.
In 276 AC, during a tourney in Lannisport, which Tywin held to honor the birth of Prince Viserys Targaryen, Tygett and his youngest brother, Gerion, were both unhorsed by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, the crown prince of Dragonstone.
In his childhood, Tyrion Lannister, who dreamed of owning a dragon, asked Ser Tygett for a dragon on his nameday, but his uncle tells him that dragons had died out a century before, which upsets Tyrion, causing him to start fires in the bowels of his home of Casterly Rock to the point where he would stare at them for hours, pretending they were dragonflame.
At an unknown point, Tygett married Lady Darlessa Marbrand and they would bore an only son named Tyrek. Tygett passed away from a pox in or after 285 AC.
