Alright! My first day as a hero has finally come! I'm at max voltage!

Akira Otori is a rookie member of the South Sector.

He used to be a delinquent, but after being saved by a hero from a fire, he aspired to become one due to admiration. He may be belligerent and short-tempered, but he also has compassion. He's the type to rush headfirst into something once he's made up his mind.

He's childhood friends with Ren and Will, with the latter often meddling with his affairs to this day. On the other hand, for certain reasons, he's unable to see eye-to-eye with his cousin Ren.

He's known Gast since his time as a delinquent.

Appearance[]

Akira is a young man with an average height and build. He has unkempt hair with long bangs that are swept back on the left side of his face, showcasing his 4 piercings. He has big green eyes and narrow eyebrows.

Akira wears his uniform messily, and doesn't bother to button up his shirt properly or tuck it into his pants. He has his sleeves rolled up, displaying the simple gold and silver bracelet he wears on his left wrist. He also forgets to wear a tie, probably because he is incapable of tying one as is revealed in The Great Gentleman's Ceremony. Instead, he lets his red undershirt show in its place. He wears Helios's signature medal on his left breast, and displays his rank through the medal on his right, which indicates that he's an A hero through its single star. On top of his shirt he wears a black and white belt with a chain attached to its left side. He sports brown dress shoes.

Hero Outfit[]

Akira wears the standard Helios training outfit with a bright red jacket on top. The jacket has green accents and displays his substance logo on the back. He wears fingerless gloves which have the same pattern as his jacket. Around his waist he sports a belt, attached to which is a small compartment box. His standard boots have red accents.

Loungewear[]

Akira wears a red t-shirt with a black collar, black sides & black bands circling his shoulders. During the summer, Akira rolls up the sleeves to make the shirt appear like a tank top. During winter, Akira leaves the sleeves as is, and wears a black long-sleeve shirt underneath his t-shirt.

Akira pairs this with black gym shorts worn over black leggings. The black gym shorts have a white drawstring and appear to have a white descending arrow-shaped pattern on the sides of each pant leg.

Personality[]

Energetic and always raring to go, Akira is almost always the loudest person in the room, and is frequently shouting out his catchphrase: voltage max! He has a tendency to act extremely rude, using coarse language and speaking without thinking, leading to him getting scolded by Will and his two mentors fairly often. He can be pretty inconsiderate, with Will being particularly familiar with his antics. He tends to forget about plans he's made with him, eat the food Will left for himself without asking, and make hurtful comments about Will's cooking. However, he never means to hurt anyone, and when he realizes he makes a mistake, he always tries to remedy the situation (in Will's case, he makes sure to buy some of his favorite Japanese sweets). He tends to rush forward without sweating the details, which leads him to ignore protocols while working or forget to submit important documentation, such as his plan for his New Year's special in HAPPY NEW YEAR SHOW! His unyielding personality causes him to be a danger to himself sometimes, as he relentlessly tries to master Overflow, which is a hero's ability to push their power past its limits, at the cost of it acting up against the yielder. The fact that he's quick to act can be a heroic trait of his, however, such as when he jumped out of a boat to save a struggling Will in Midsummer Survival Island.

Despite his faults, Akira is extremely compassionate when it comes to his comrades and citizens alike. He worries about Will's strange behavior in Spring Has Sprung! Happy Easter and actively works to try and mend Will and Gast's troubled relationship. He expresses concern over Ren falling ill in Melting Moon, and shows faith in Ren's strength no matter the circumstances. In SNOW TRICK VACATION!, Akira declares that he (along with Will and Oscar) will do all the planning for the Christmas League so that Brad can take a break. Furthermore, Akira agrees to help the citizens living on the mountain out with a mysterious animal that's been ravaging their food, despite already being extremely busy.

Akira acts extremely full of himself, referring to himself as the "Genius Akira Otori-sama". He always tries to proclaim himself as the best in any situation, such as saying that South Sector will definitely earn 1st place in the Sector Ranking now that he's there, or calling himself the "#1 Hero You'd Want to Have on a Deserted Island". For this reason, he's also extremely competitive; for example, he proclaimed Oscar as his rival when they first met, and tries to make everything a competition between the two of them. Despite his seemingly overbearing self-confidence, he can act rather insecure at times. In The Great Gentleman's Ceremony, Akira tells Brad that things like formal attire don't suit him, and Brad realizes that some scathing comments from Marion made him self-conscious. He also worries about how he started wanting to be a hero later than his friends. However, he always pulls through his anxieties with the desire to prove himself and show how he's grown. Since he first got admitted as a hero, Akira has worked on developing his manners and patience, leading to his fellow South Sector affiliates acknowledging his growth.

Family[]

Akira is an only child. He lived with his parents alone until his cousin, Ren, came to live with them after his family was killed. Akira's parents often took Ren out and tried cheering him up after the death of his family, including Will, leading to Akira to often be ignored and left by himself. During his delinquent years, his mother often got worried when he stayed out. Currently he holds a good relationship with his parents and stays with them during the holidays.

Trivia[]

  • Akira and his cousin Ren are Japanese. However, he doesn't know a lot of things about Japan, and most of his knowledge about the country comes from Will and Brad.
  • Akira doesn't mesh well with academics, as he has trouble sitting still for lectures and tests. He also struggles with simple math problems such as 100×10.
    • Victor has stated that he enjoys Akira's unique takes on his lessons.
  • He is horrible with technology. He has broken South's microwave before,[1] and he needs others' help to properly navigate his phone.
  • Despite constantly calling himself a genius, he can get put off-guard by sudden compliments, particularly ones from Brad.
  • Akira hates the idea of anyone being sad during the Christmas season, particularly kids.[2]
  • Both Will and Oscar have compared Akira to Oscar's hedgehog Alexander, due to both of them being friendly, hot-headed, and "cute" (according to Will).
    • In the "The Grand Plan to Capture Alexander!" drama track from the Theme Song Vol.1 Drama CD, Akira and Brad find themselves having to lure a rogue Alexander out from under the counter. Akira manages to succeed by telling Alexander how much of a genius he was for being able to escape, and tells Brad that that kind of strategy would work on him too.
  • Akira originally believed that the hero who rescued him was the hero he looks up to most, Jay; however, Jay denied ever doing such a thing. He still is searching for them, and says that he can relate to Oscar and his relationship with Brad because of how his savior helped him discover his dream.
  • He is good with both hot and cold weather, which he considers a small victory he has over Oscar, who's weak against the cold.
    • This leads him to dress rather lightly during the winter, which concerns the rest of South Sector.
  • Despite being a delinquent, Akira stated in the Ossu! Helios AU of the South Sector Drama CD that he thinks smoking is "not voltage max" and thus does partake in that behavior.
  • Nijimen held a popularity poll to celebrate HeliosR's 2nd anniversary, and Akira came in 1st place.
  • In the Idol AU, Akira is a member of GoldenXXsection.
    • He's both the youngest and newest member of the group, only having been apart of GS for one month during the time of the drama track. Although the group has exploded in popularity since then, Asch thinks they've gotten boring and repetitive.
    • He is their main vocal, and considered to be a very skilled singer.
    • Despite being a popular idol, he makes no effort to hide his identity while in public, and often gets noticed by fans.
    • He and Gast used to perform at the park when they were younger, and promised each other to both became great idols.
