"Humans are full of secret nasties, it's why so many of them end up here."
―Millie describing humans

Humans are a sapient species native to the planet Earth. Deceased human souls make up all of the Sinner Demons of Hell and Earth-born angels of Heaven.

All humans are descendants of Adam.

History[]

After the creation of the Earth, the angels from Heaven used the dust of Earth and created the first of humanity; Adam and Lilith. The first couple were created to be equal, but Adam demanded full control over Lilith; however, she refused to submit to his will and fled the Garden of Eden. Lilith was found by Lucifer and the couple fell in love.

The two, wishing to share free will with humanity under the assumption they could do remarkable things with it, gave Adam's new wife, Eve, the Fruit of Knowledge, who gladly accepted. This single act allowed evil to make its way into the Earth and humanity, and with it the creation of Hell and the sinners.

Description[]

As the primary lifeform on Earth, humans are the only known sapient species to live on Earth, and subsequently the known universe.

Upon death, depending on the actions that the human takes while on Earth, the human's soul receives divine judgement and enters into either Heaven as an Angel or Hell as a Demon. If human souls ascend to Heaven as angels, they enjoy eternal paradise, however, if they are damned to Hell as sinners, they live out their afterlife as post mortem punishment. Due to this, it is a common belief amongst Hell natives that deceased human souls cannot become ghosts and do not linger on Earth.

Aside from many interpretations of the afterlife, human society as a whole is entirely unaware of the true nature of the afterlife, Heaven and Hell. However, throughout Earth's history, the entities of these realms have travelled to Earth and interacted with humans for various reasons, such as business, ritual, pleasure, or more wide-scale affairs.

Humans are often exploited by demons, such as the Succubi species, who use humans to spread sexual activity, but otherwise remain in the dark about these beings. Some fringe groups, such as D.H.O.R.K.S., claim knowledge of the afterlife and Hell. These groups, however, are typically dismissed by most humans, according to Stolas.

While most humans dismiss the existence of demons and the afterlife, many have beliefs in urban legends on Earth. In "Mission: Chupacabras", there are people who believe in the legend of the Chupacabra, the goat-sucker. In addition, in "Ghostf**kers", humans believe in the concept of ghosts even though they apparently do not exist due to the fact that human souls can only go to either Heaven or Hell and cannot return to Earth as a "ghost".

Mortality[]

Humans are very susceptible to dying in various ways, including natural causes such as old age or disease, and any large amount of damage to their bodies such as being shot, stabbed, dismembered, asphyxiated, or receiving hard enough blunt force trauma.

Cultural Relations[]

Demons have mixed views on humanity. For example, Millie says that humans are full of "secret nasties". Angels are willing to interact with living humans, such as the Cherubs who are sent to save humans from death and reform them into virtuous people.

    • Molly
    • Angel Dust's mother
  • Alastor's mother
  • Eve (Adam's second wife)

Trivia[]

  • According to Faustisse, the voices of Sinners are changed from the one they had as humans, possibly into "whatever fits proper".[note 1] This detail may be retconned, since this does not seem to be the case with Mrs. Mayberry. Although, her tone is significantly less jovial than her human self's.
  • In the Helluva Boss episode "Murder Family", Martha and her family seem to temporarily take on certain "demonic" traits such as sharp teeth, red eyes, and slit pupils when in a state of evil derangement; these traits vanish as the situation de-escalates. It is unclear if this was a tendency unique to humans such as them, given that they were worshipers of evil forces, or if these traits are likely meant as visual metaphors, and not literal transformations.
  • As revealed in "Welcome to Heaven", it is unknown what the requirements are for a human soul to ascend to Heaven.
  • As deceased souls from Earth appear in Heaven and Hell, Hellborn demons don't believe ghosts exist. Despite this, some demons, such as Blitzo, still believe ghosts do exist.
  • As confirmed in "Overture", Lilith is the same figure as the biblical Adam's former wife, and is formerly human as well.
    • The Eden family was also hinted at by Vivziepop, but she did not want to talk about them because it will be part of the story.[1]
