Tim Churley, better known as The Gatekeeper is the central antagonist of Joe Venture. An experimenting cosmic scientist who forced Joebotnik McCricket to be in his experiments to test out the resourcefulness of a mortal being given magic due to being summoned by Lucas Wookville for getting entertainment value in Joe's suffering.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- Ever since day one in 2019 he was summoned by Joe's nine bullies of the past, The Gatekeeper vowed to torture Joe as much as they needed him to be, all so everyone in the group and The Gatekeeper can revel in Joebotnik's suffering as a form of "payback".
- At the beginning of the story Joe Venture, he gave Joebotnik magical powers to test out his experiments The Gatekeeper insisted. It is entirely possible that The Gatekeeper chose to give him powers like immortality so Joe wouldn't remain dead during his goals of torture he didn't think to expand after the fact.
- Although he gave Joebotnik magic, this does not make him tragic or an Anti-Villain by any means, as he was already a ruthless supervillain beforehand due to him wanting to torture Joe anytime he felt like it, and toying with Joe in any way he could. Meaning he held back his powers solely to mess with Joe.
- When Joebotnik tries flying through cosmic portals on his way home, The Gatekeeper would always double-cross him by whacking Joe with a giant object and sending him into a random dimension by force.
- At any time there's nobody around Joe (or vice-versa), The Gatekeeper would strip Joe away from the dimension he remained in peacefully, and force him back into the same cosmic portal The Gatekeeper got access to so he could torment Joe in any over-the-top way he likes to, all to attempt weakening Joe's spirit before sending him to another dimension as a fitful routine of his.
- While Joe remains in a dimension alone, The Gatekeeper would often gets the enjoyment out of manipulating environments and people to be awkward and mentally taxing so Joebotnik could be put into every single possible predicament to exist.
- He has only tortured Joebotnik himself for over 10 years, making his life a living nightmare due to Joe's bullies summoning him to target Joe in particular.
- Despite working with Joe's nine bullies of the past who were responsible for summoning The Gatekeeper by the opportunity to target Joe for their fun, this was only for self-serving reasons, because the powered-up Gatekeeper eventually became a threat to both sides of the conflict. The Gatekeeper even forced them to stay with him as his team of lab partners so they don't end up being the test subject that Joe has become.
- While Joe remains in a dimension alone, The Gatekeeper would often gets the enjoyment out of manipulating environments and people to be awkward and mentally taxing so Joebotnik could be put into every single possible predicament to exist.
- After he gets arrested and confirmed to every single galaxy of his crimes, he acts weak and when nobody's around, he then escapes the prison that should've kept him imprisoned for good, he manages to flee away from being arrested; he then plans on continuing his "research" that he enjoys in Joe's misery and suffering, as The Gatekeeper pulls out his watch that has the same amount of power that his computer did to pull Joe out of the world he's in, and continue in his sadistic experiments for more years, resulting in Joe taking 50 more years to confront him.
- He is the only character in the story who Joebotnik saw as a threat that needs to be overpowered due to The Gatekeeper toying with Joe's hopes and beliefs to return home at any opportunity, making it all the more easy to root for Joebotnik to defeating The Gatekeeper.
