Matsushige is a minor antagonist in Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first game of the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) series. He was formerly part of the Tojo Clan's Kazama family before being transferred to the Nishikiyama family, of which he treats the boss like dirt, playing a role in his downward spiral and eventual fall into villainy.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- He is an incredibly rude person and openly disrespects his boss Nishikyama, stating he only got as far as he did due to sucking up to the executives. (To his defense, Matsushige wasn’t wrong though, even if this isn’t portrayed in a cathartic light. Nishiki never would’ve gotten immediate respect from his subordinates by getting to the top by sucking up to the executives).
- After Nishiki tells him to get 30 million yen by any means necessary so that he can save his hospitalized sister from dying, Matsushige decides to rob money from stores owned by Nishiki's former boss Osamu Kashiwagi, knowing this would later lead Nishiki to be punished by Kashiwagi. (To be fair, Nishiki explicitly told him to get the 30 million yen by any means necessary, and sticking to Nishiki’s turf wouldn’t have gotten Nishiki the 30 million yen he needed.)
- When Nishiki is at his lowest and is about to comit suicide after his sister died due to the doctor who asked 30 million yen from Nishiki in order to buy a heart from an organ broker turned out be a complete scam, Matsushige bursts into the room and later insults Nishiki. caling him inept and unfavorably comparing him to Kiryu. This leads to Nishiki stabbing Matsushige, while revealing he was the one who kiled Sohei Dojima. Nishiki immediately transform into a far more ruthless, power-hungry figure after this.
