Futoshi Shimano is a major antagonist in the Yakuza series. He is the patriarch of the Shimano family and is the former boss of Goro Majima, before being shot and killed by Yukio Terada.
He is voiced by Naomi Kusumi in the Japanese Dub and Micheal Madsen in the infamous PS2 English dub.
What makes him hated?[]
- Made Majima be tortured for a year in a torture chamber known as the Hole after the former rebelled against his superiors in an attempt to go with his oath brother, Taiga Saejima.
- Exiled Majima to Sotenbori and enslaved him to his oath brother Tsukasa Sagawa in which the latter treats Majima like a slave.
- Manipulated things in hope Majima would receive the Empty Lot from Makoto Makimura and that Majima would give the Lot to him so he can become the Third Chairman of the Tojo Clan.
- Attempted to sell out the Tojo Clan to the Omi Alliance after making a secret collaboration with them. When his goal failed, Shimano would shoot and killed the Omi Alliance Captain in order to not be outed as a traitor and Sagawa would be killed as a result.
- It is revealed that he participated in the Jingweon Massacre alongside Shintaro Kazama and took sadistic glee in it as opposed to the latter who secretly spared some people.
- Conspired with the Omi Alliance again to steal the 10 billion yen from Kyohei Jingu in hopes he can become the next Chariman of the Tojo Clan.
- Performs Yubitsume on one of his subordinates for failing to kill Kiryu, as well as the fact his barber accidentally cut his scalp on not just on his pinky finger but also the forefinger and middle finger as well, he also claim he's being merciful because he's glad to hear about Kiryu’s return.
- Throws a grenade at the young Haruka Sawamura, which Shintaro Kazama takes the hit, killing Kiryu's paternal figure and one of the most loved characters in-universe and within the fanbase.
- In the remake of the first Yakuza game, Yakuza Kiwami, he is seen mentally screwing with Akira Nishikiyama during flashback cutscenes, unfavorably comparing him to his sworn brother Kazuma Kiryu. Nishikiyama would later turn into an eviler and more ruthless person who would turn against his former allies and friends and even cause some of their deaths, something Shimano unintentionally played a part in.
