Klaris

Klaris Llfiend is a major character in Deepwoken.

She is an arrogant and anti-social Black Diver who frequently abuses her powers or turns a blind eye to many incidents she's fully capable of preventing.

What Makes Her a Hate Sink?[]

She takes advantage of Viqh, a woman who was kidnapped as a young girl, to emulate Lightkeeping in the form of Radiant Tones.
She verbally abuses Mark Adaset, one of the most friendly Divers in Castle Light, as well as the one who works tirelessly to maintain Castle Light, and kicks him out of his room.
She calls people she views as 'too weak' as 'Apprentices' and shouts at them to 'scram,' only to suck up to them once they become powerful enough to help her.
She continually sends expeditions to the Second Layer, despite the constant disappearances of such powerful personal being extremely suspicious to just be handwaved away, as Chaser had been brutally murdering his cohorts and in reality was requesting a new supply of victims.
- Journeyman Diver Skeli even calls her out on this during Diver Journal II.
After learning about how she is indirectly responsible for Chaser driving Divers insane, starving them to death, and horrifically mutilating them, she just shrugs it off and states that it should be expected.
Developer Ragoozer all but stated she's named after Korilfiend, an eldritch satanic god of fire in the universe, and that she should be viewed with suspicion.
When she's the most kind to the player is after they hand her the three Diver Journals, which explicitly call her out on her actions. It's heavily implied that she's simply going to destroy them to avoid facing consequences for her actions
She condemned fan favorite character, Cap'n Orlandeau, to New Kyrsa, a hellish city built on the body of an eldritch demon that seeks to wake it's creator, a Lovecraftian horror that would destroy reality should it gain full consciousness, that is also populated by the brainwashed former citizens armed to the teeth with ice spears. It's also filled with a mist that brainwashes people who inhale it, goes through a temporal reset every 27 hours that can erode your being the more you go through it and, should any entities wish to cause you torment, can separate your body from your soul and control your actions, leaving you in a fate worse than death. Should he escape, she'd devote most of her resources to tracking him down across the globe and sending him back. Her entire reason for doing this was that she simply disagreed with him.
While she does reward players for their venturing into New Kyrsa, most of these just amount to her bribing them to risk themselves numerous times. Indeed, it's clear she's actually ripping them off, as it was noted how just to dye your hair brown required killing an Eldritch demon capable of destroying space time with its death, as Klaris was the only source of hair dyes. Furthermore, when hair dyes became more available, they were revealed to actually be very cheap, despite Klaris charging Kyrsan Medallions for them, artifacts worth enough to drive kingdoms bankrupt.
While The Divers existed as an unambiguously good and heroic organization, Klaris' actions and attitude have made them so despised, the rival Ignition Union, which works for an organization based on the Third Reich, employs child soldiers, converts animals into cyborg war machines and commits numerous acts of mass murder against innocent groups, have been viewed far more favorably and as morally superior.
