Angel Call (エンジェル・コール Enjeru Kōru?) is an item that appears in the manga Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam: Ghost.

Overview[]

During the Battle of Jupiter, a Crossbone Vanguard transport ship that was on its way to supply the Mother Vanguard was lost in an unexplained accident. Twenty years later, while adrift in the Saturn Sphere in a damaged state, it was discovered by a Jupiter Foundation research vessel sailing in the vicinity. At that time, a bacterium was found attached to a meteorite that seemed to have collided with the research ship, and as a result of the investigation, it was discovered that the bacterium did not match the DNA of any lifeform on Earth, and it turned out to be an unknown space bacterium from outer space. It was named "Angel Call" by Tetenith Dogatie, who was pleased with the discovery of life in the outer space.

However, despite its name, it possesses a powerful corrosive poison that can melt the entire body in less than a minute if it comes into contact with the human body. The crew of the transport ship in which it was discovered were all infected with the bacteria and died of liquefaction. Since Angel Call does not correspond to the DNA of any lifeform on Earth, it is impossible to produce a vaccine, and there is no cure (the only option is to delay liquefaction by immersing the whole body in a special liquid discovered in the process of vaccine research, but this does not prevent the body from melting and eventually leads to death). It is also resistant to vacuum conditions and neutrons (nuclear weapons). The only way to kill it is to heat it at over 2000 degrees Celsius for more than a minute.

Fonse Kagatie, who was aware of its characteristics, once planned to use it as a biological weapon in the second stage of the Zanscare Empire's Operation Angel Halo (after the first stage, in which the psycho wave emitted from Angel Halo neutralizes the earth's human population, the Angel Call dissolves and wipes out all the earth's human population). However, it was not adopted because it was impossible to produce a vaccine and was too dangerous, and because technological advances during the development process made it possible for Angel Halo itself to emit a more powerful psycho wave than originally predicted.
