Angela said on http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Licensing_update_June_19,_2009#FFWiki_Licensing: I'm sorry I didn't know about this earlier. Officially, that wiki has always been GFDL because the license settings were not changed, meaning the meta data of every article (which you can see if you click 'view source') says it's GFDL. Edits have been made to this page which implies some of the content was CC-NC and some GFDL. Users with 'English' set as their preferred language in their preferences have probably thought the wiki was partly CC, but those with other languages were being told it was GFDL. One big problem is the type of Creative Commons License chosen (CC-BY-NC-SA) does not make it compatible with Wikipedia, and yet Wikipedia content has been added there. This edit makes it more confusing as you can't mix these 2 licenses. I suggest you take this back to the wiki and see if they can work out what to do. When the community has decided what the official license is going to be, let me know, and I can set that in the meta data. One option might be to remove any content you've imported from Wikipedia or other Wikia sites, or to tag that as being an exception to the licensing of the rest of the wiki. Angela (talk) 06:10, 18 June 2009 (UTC) What confuses me is, if we can't mix Creative Commons and GFDL, how can we tag certain pages as being exempt from the CC license? Would those exempt pages simply not have any licensing at all? In past years, a lot of our pages were copied from wikipedia, but I think that number has diminished. There's also all those accursed Kingdom Hearts images here that might be seen as belonging to the KH wiki (or not, I really don't know). So.... what do we do with other wiki content? Tag or terminate?
BlueHighwind Q? 16:40, 18 June 2009 (UTC) TALK - So if you care to find me, look to the Western Sky!ツ:
Any Kingdom Hearts images belong to Square Enix, not to any wiki. Don't worry about that.
Thanks a bunch, CSM :/ Let's not tag nor terminate. Let's just switch officially (i. e. ask for the meta-data to be fxed) to the CCASA so that we may keep our Wikipedia-dumped content. We'd go through a lot of trouble in sorting out, either for tagging or termination, the content we took from Wikipedia. The part of I suggest you take this back to the wiki and see if they can work out what to do makes me uneasy because I know 90% of our regulars are just going to shrug and say "meh" (I friggin hate that though -_-). Should we make a notice or something?

Wait....this doesn't affect images anyway. O.o So, the CCASA (compared to the CC-BY-NC-SA) allows for sharing of content between wikipedia/other wikis and the FFWiki. I'm not going to make a forum on this; I'm going to put it on the talk page of Project: Copyrights. I can affirm our support of CCASA if it goes over well (or without comment, that works too) on the talk page.
Pardon my ignorance, sir Admins. I'm trying to follow what's happening but am having trouble. Can you translate into layman's, please? Drake Clawfang 20:49, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I opened comments on the talk page of FFWiki: Copyrights. Basically, our content licensing was murky, as CSM was mixing two different types of licensing (CC-BY-NC-SA and GFDL) to try to explain our policy. Apparently, this new CCASA will facilitate matters greatly, and we're planning to switch to it should no serious concerns arise.

the USERNAME template work? I kind of saw it in Armageddon's page, and also what are the other templates aside the commonly known ones? DB36 08:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Unbuntu[]
Judging from some of the info you have had on here. I am going to assume you know something about Unbuntu Linux. I recently installed it on my HP laptop (i partitioned the hard-drive to run both windows and linux). And for the life of me, I cannot get the wifi to work. I hooked it up to the internet by patching into my modem long enough to download the latest upgrade of the Network Manager, but still, I have nothing. I am running Unbuntu Version 9.02. Hope you can help. Exdeath64 00:21, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Partitioning was a very good idea. Question: is the WiFi working on Windows? Sometimes, shutting down your wireless network in Windows affects the WiFi when running Ubuntu (don't ask me why ¬_¬). Another thing I can think of is the bios. When starting your computer, when the HP logo appears, press f2 or f12 (or whatever key gives you access to your laptop's bios) and look for the option to enable or disable your wireless LAN adaptor. I hope this works. If by any chance it doesn't, you can try asking the people at Ubuntu's IRC channel. Freenode sends you to the correct channel if you join #Ubuntu. I hope this helps. - Do you honestly expect me to remember that Drake? -_- Faethinte audio 05:07, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you don't it's fine, I was just curious when I saw the message as I made the page. It's no bit deal, I'm more concerned with Part 6 which is gonna be a lot of typing to do, though it'll still be easier than those three-dozen diagrams....
- Also, just a random note - Rydia is dethroned, Terra's my fav femme. Watching her beat the crap out of Ultimekia sealed the deal ;). Drake Clawfang 05:12, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
On another, more serious note, I want to ask an Admin's opinion on this. The VA sections for the Dissidia pages, until recently were filled, I've blanked them. My reasoning for this is thus - too much speculation and false information and sources, especially considering all these VAs have yet to be identified by any manner except ear. So, I blanked them, but I know there's going to be debate over this in the future. Your thoughts? Drake Clawfang 05:23, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
So uh, any advice for this? Drake Clawfang 19:23, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Until there's written or audiovisual proof of the VA's, adding names is purely speculative. Take them down. Faethinte audio 20:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

You have poked the sleeping bear, prepare anti-bear Armour[]
You listen here pal. Like six other users have bothered me about this, and my patience is wearing thin. And despite my best efforts to explain, its been pretty much ignored. So here goes *pulls megaphone from hammerspace*, I HAVE A BLOODY MEDICAL/MENTAL CONDITION THAT CAUSES ME TO CONFUSE THESE THINGS! Look, this has been an issue for a while, and I AM working on it, but I am doing the best I bloody well can, and if you don't like the speed at which I am making progress, you can slag off. YOUR problem however is when things don't go the way you want, you assume people are deliberately doing it to piss you off (yeah, I remember the research project thing, the reason I did not change it immediately was because I honestly thought that the "new message" alert would pop up when someone edited the talk page and only noticed when I realized that people seemed pissed at me, and no messages had popped up, so I checked, a lo and behold like six people had posted). So get over yourself, learn to realize that I don't really care enough to do things just to piss you off (If I where doing that, you would know immediately) and if you feel compelled to ban me for ranting, go nuts (and by the by, I don't think this violates wiki policy, I did not curse once or say anything overly offensive). I'll take it with quiet dignity and return upon the end of it. Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow. Exdeath64 06:28, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't believe you. But don't worry. Being full of it is no bannable offense. Faethinte audio 06:33, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- You honestly don't believe that I have some sort of medical condition? Have you SEEN some of the stuff I have done around here? Regardless of weather or not you believe me, this is the case. And I will continue to work on it, but I am afraid you will need to learn to deal with the occasional mishap. Exdeath64 06:40, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- Judging by your overall good spelling and ease for writing, yeah, I find it quite improbable that you have a medical condition that specifically makes you write "has" instead of "as". You even went up to say "it's an old habit", never implying any sort of medical condition.

- Disorders of that type are commonly treated in grammar school, since pretty much every one of them has special programs to help struggling students read and write. If you really did have whatever you're pretending to have (dyspraxia?) you probably would not be able to use a computer as fluently as you do. And if you do have problems, having them is no excuse to not try harder to say what you mean. Its not like there's a time limit to post stuff, just proofread your statement once or twice, or three times. --BlueHighwind ツ 13:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

@Blue: Problems with right and left are treated the same way, and yet you still have a small problem.

FF Wiki's IRC channel[]
Hi, I don't intend to sound naggish but the FF IRC at times gets users that abuse sockpuppets and do nothing but annoy users, the problem however is the lack of users with the power to do anything about it and as such the only defence against the users is the ignore command which doesn't really help against sockpuppets anyway, my proposal is that there be a few active IRC users given the power to remove such users from the IRC. Anyway thanks for reading.

Dissidia gameplay guides[]
Hey there! I have a question. I'd like to do gameplay guides for Dissidia, that cover usable characters, their pros, cons, etc., how the map works, and general tips for fighting in actual game along with things like tips for leveling, etc. For the most part, I'd like to do this for the Japanese version, but if I have the time, I want to also do one for the US version when it gets released. It wouldn't be a full walkthrough, because that would consist of a massive amount of time that I don't have. Is this sort of thing allowed? And if so, how would I categorize it? Thanks~
In short, what you're asking is if a Dissidia walkthrough is allowed. Of course it is. Just remember to clarify what version (Jap or Eng) you're covering.

If it was underlined in red, I fixed it, and I'm not exactly familiar with the English method of spelling things, and if nobody cares which version of the word is used, why does it matter? And I'm actually trying to be productive, so how about you leave me to my work instead of taking shots at me for no good reason. Exdeath64 23:49, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- That you don't know the difference between the English spelling convention and the American spelling convention is hardly anyone's fault but yours. I was only telling you to take it easy on British and American differences because nobody here cares much about said differences. You're free and encouraged to fix any other spelling issues.
- Of course, I emphasise that, has somebody that tends to commit typos consistently, you should not complain too much about others' mistakes. Faethinte audio 23:53, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- It is actually very uncommon for an American to know all of the differences between UK and US English. I still find out new ones weekly. Besides, aren't ILHI and BlueLionheart both also getting rid of UK spellings and comma structures, respectively? As ILHI said, the PAL versions of Final Fantasy games use US spellings, so we should commit to that if we are to commit. Eric Ryan Jones 21:37, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- From FF8 onwards PAL versions used UK spellings, so that's that excuse blown out of the water. Jeppo (Talk) 21:43, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- I don't live in Europe, so I really would have little way of knowing. I had to go opicherdff of what ILHI said. Apparently, he lied. Eric Ryan Jones 21:48, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- He was probably misinformed. If you had told me, however, that a certain version spelling should be universal throughout the wiki, then I can't argue with you, because I believe the wiki should stick to one language and stick by it. I have to concede that that would have to be the American spelling (drat) but life is full of compromises. Jeppo (Talk) 21:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
