Under Junon is a town in Final Fantasy VII located beneath Junon. It is visited by Cloud's party during "The Stowaway Strategy" on their way to Junon and across the ocean. It is a ramshackle little fishing community that exists in the large military town's shadow.
Layout[]
Under Junon is located in the Junon Area on the eastern continent. It is on the coast and has a submarine dock nearby.
Town[]
The town is a single area dotted with houses. To the right are the Weapon Store and Priscilla's House up the stairs, and to the left down the steps is the beach. The first house when arriving to Under Junon is Grandmother's House.
The back of the town has an elevator to the upper Junon, but it is guarded by a Shinra Electric Power Company employee. When the player first arrives to Under Junon access to the upper town is restricted, and they can't use the lift, but all other times the player can bribe the guard with a measly 10 gil.
Weapon Store[]
Though called the weapon store, the store only sells one armor piece and items. The stock is paltry compared to what is available in the upper town.
Grandmother's House[]
An elderly couple lives in the house in the bottom part of the screen, and offers Cloud and the party an overnight stay as part of the story as Under Junon does not have an inn. When staying there in "The Stowaway Strategy", Cloud dreams of an inner voice speaking to him overnight.
Priscilla's House[]
The house up the stairs on the right is Priscilla's House. The girl called Priscilla lives here, seemingly alone. After rescuing her as part of the story, she is brought here to recuperate. She later gives the party a dolphin whistle and the Shiva Materia outside her house. If the party's Materia stock was full (not really possible in a normal playthrough) she would leave the Materia in her house, and the player could pick it up from the bed, accessed with the ladder. After the story events in Under Junon, the player can return to Priscilla's House to talk to her, and she comments on the events, such as when the player returns without Cloud in the party.
Dolphin Offing[]
The beach is visited as part of the story. The party fights the boss Bottomswell here to rescue Priscilla, and then must play a CPR minigame to revive her. With the dolphin whistle, the player can call upon Mr. Dolphin to get to Junon's Airport. The aim is to whistle in the right spot. The player can simply not move, and from the default position whistle twice.
When returning to Under Junon later, the player can ask Mr. Dolphin to take them to the Cargo Ship from here so they don't need to go through the whole of Junon to cross the ocean. If the player loses the submarine minigame during the Underwater Reactor adventure by having their submarine destroyed from diving into too many mines, Cloud and the party will awake here on the beach, having been rescued by Mr. Dolphin.
Quests[]
On the way to Junon, Cloud and the party must first fight a boss battle against Bottomswell, before a minigame in which Cloud needs to perform CPR on Priscilla. It is impossible to lose this minigame, and taking five full lungfuls is enough to resuscitate her. Later, Priscilla gives Cloud a whistle to call Mr. Dolphin in order to reach Junon.
If the player's submarine is destroyed during the chapter where the party visits the underwater reactor, they are returned to Under Junon.
Encounters[]
The only encounter is the boss Bottomswell, fought during the quest. Under Junon has its own battle background specifically for this encounter, depicting the rig in the background. The background is not reused at other points in the game.
Items[]
While no treasure chests are available in the area, the Shiva Materia is awarded for defeating Bottomswell. It is possible to duplicate the Materia by taking certain steps.
Shops[]
Weapon ShopName | Cost |

Musical themes[]
The music that plays in Under Junon is "On Our Way" (旅の途中で, Tabi no Tochū De?). After resting as part of the plot, "Rufus's Welcoming Ceremony" (ルーファウス歓迎式, Rūfausu Kangei Shikiten?), a fanfare played for Rufus's inauguration, is head from the town.
Behinds the scenes[]
The BradyGames guide mixes up the area names and refers to Upper and Lower Junon as "Lower Junon", Junon Branch as "Upper Junon", and Under Junon as "Junon Harbor".
