Haste is a status in Final Fantasy VII that makes one's ATB gauge fill out twice as fast and their idle animation speed is doubled. As a downside, all timed effects like Barrier and Slow-numb run out double the pace. If a target is immune to Haste, they are also immune to Slow. Haste does not expire for the duration of the battle once granted, unless removed with DeSpell or other means.
Abilities[]
Item | Speed Drink |
---|---|
Limit Break | Lunatic High, Howling Moon |
Spell | Big Guard (E.Skill), Haste (Magic) |
Additionally, equipping the Sprint Shoes will put the wearer under permanent Haste.
Enemy abilities[]
Ability | Description | Enemy |
---|---|---|
Adrenaline | Grants Barrier and Haste to self. Ignores status immunity. | Iron Man |
Big Guard | Grants Barrier, MBarrier, and Haste to all allies. Can be learned as an E.Skill. | Beachplug, Wolfmeister |
Protection[]
The following allows the player to prevent Haste, though this is usually a side effect of immunizing against Slow.
Spell | Resist (Magic) |
---|---|
Item | Vaccine |
Materia | Added Effect + Time linked in armor |
Removal[]
Spell | DeSpell, Slow, Stop |
---|---|
Item | Holy Torch |
If the Hasted character dies or is petrified and is then restored, Haste will be gone when they return.
Enemies[]
The following enemies are immune to Haste. However, putting Haste on enemies would be a detriment most of the time; the only boon would be for Death-sentence to expire faster.
- Cactuar
- Ghirofelgo
- Grosspanzer∙Big
- Grosspanzer∙Mobile
- Grosspanzer∙Small
- Guardian
- Magnade
- Manhole
- Scissors
- XCannon
- Ying/Yang
- Schizo
- Carry Armor & Left Arm (Carry Armor) & Right Arm (Carry Armor)
- Hojo & Helletic Hojo & Left Arm (Helletic Hojo) & Right Arm (Helletic Hojo)
- Proud Clod & Jamar Armor
- Jenova∙SYNTHESIS
Use[]
Haste is a very powerful status, enabling the player to get turns much faster, with the downside being that Barrier and MBarrier will run out faster on the character and the character succumbs to Death-sentence and Slow-numb faster. Haste can be used way before reaching Gongaga through stealing from Vice before heading to the Shinra Bldg. to get Speed Drinks. Once the player has Enemy Skill, they can instead use Big Guard to grant some protection to the party in addition to Haste.
Haste should be one of the first actions the player uses in battle to give themselves a huge advantage over the enemy. Once the Sprint Shoes can be obtained, they should opt in using this if the Ribbon is not needed, such as against Emerald Weapon.
Haste is great on the Battle Square as it does not lapse.
