Attacks with Meteo, and goes for the throat with Bite.
Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry
The Tyrannosaur, formerly called Tyranosaur and Tyrano, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI. It is one of the best enemies to level up with, as it leaves high amounts of EXP.
Stats[]
Battle[]
Tyrannosaurs only attack in two formations: alone and in pairs, the latter of which is always a surrounded attack that even an Alarm Earring cannot prevent. Being in a pincer attack boosts Tyrannosaur's Attack power and makes it even more dangerous. Its special attack, Bite, can inflict several thousand damage and easily kill a party member, and their Meteor spell can inflict upwards of a thousand damage to all party members.
When defeated, it may drop the Impartisan.
Strategy[]
Blizzaga, Flare, and Ultima spells work best against it. An easy way to defeat this enemy in the SNES and PS versions is to use the Vanish-Doom bug by casting Vanish, and then follow up with Doom to instantly kill it. As this bug was eliminated in the Advance and subsequent releases, players will need to rely on other strategies and have sufficient defenses to withstand its attacks.
Coliseum setup[]
Ice Rods exploit Tyrannosaur's weakness to Ice, with its chance of casting Blizzara giving it an advantage over endgame weapons, such as Gladius and Holy Lance. Maxing out the character's Defense and/or Evasion (MBlock in SNES/PS1) should deal with the Tyrannosaur's powerful Bite attack.
