That's it! I've come up with a new recipe!
Ignis when he concocts a new recipe
Recipes (レシピ, Reshipi?) in Final Fantasy XV allow Ignis Scientia to cook various foods at camp for the player party.
Mechanics[]
When resting at a haven, the player can choose which food Ignis should cook from the recipes he knows, depending on which Ingredients are in the inventory. Different foods yield different buffs. Buffs last until the next sundown, but can be extended via abilities learned from the Ascension grid (see below). Just as a buff is about to wear off, the icons below will flash briefly.
Ignis learns new recipes by eating new food at restaurants, seeing NPCs eat certain foods, from reading signs/posters/magazines/books in the world that feature food, by acquiring the ingredients of a dish for the first time, by buying cook books from shops, and by raising his cooking level by camping. With some recipes the player can't just buy the ingredients, and needs to loot them from an enemy or a procurement point to trigger the scene where Ignis comes up with the dish. There is a glitch where Ignis doesn't always come up with a recipe even if the player has acquired the ingredients for it. If this happens the player needs to sell the ingredients and re-acquire them for another chance of Ignis concocting it. However, the Iron Shelf recipe books are key items that cannot be sold and are retained in New Game+, so if Ignis does not learn their recipe as soon as the item is purchased, he will never be able to learn it, even when starting a New Game+.
Cooking level carries over when using chapter select and New Game Plus. His cooking level rises by accumulating Skill Points (SP in the table below) from the meals he makes.
Favorites[]
Some dishes are the party members' favorites, and all of the team have a certain theme of tastes to correspond to their individual preferences. Recipes that are a favorite of a party member will have that character's sprite displayed in the corner of its picture. If the party eats one of Noctis's favorite foods, the tech bar will fill twice as fast until the buffs expire. If the party eats either Gladiolus, Ignis or Prompto's favorites, that party member will only perform critical versions of their Techniques with strengthened effects; this is signified by a yellow background when the skill is executed, rather than the normal green version.
Quick Recipeh[]
After beating Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis once, Ignis gains access to Quick Recipeh (神速クッキング, Shinsoku Kukkingu?, lit. Godspeed Cooking) in the main game when he is in the lead (when using character swap). To also use the tech in the DLC episode, the player will need to acquire the necessary utensil items from the shops during subsequent playthroughs of the DLC episode itself. Quick Recipeh allows Ignis to cook a meal mid-battle and give himself unique buffs or debuffs, depending on chance. In the original version Ignis was simply invulnerable to enemy attacks during the animation of him cooking, but after patch 1.21 action freezes around him while he cooks, similar to Wait Mode. Both the buffs and debuffs wear off if switching away from Ignis.
- "Terrible": Ignis hunches over and is afflicted with two debuffs exclusive to him (damage and Total Clarity meters drop to 0, and he can't build them up again until to effect wears off), plus poison. The debuffs ignore immunities, though Poison can still be blocked with the Magitek Exosuits or healed with an item.
- "Bad": Ignis shakes his head and is afflicted with the two exclusive debuffs, neutering his damage and Total Clarity meters.
- "Great": Ignis clenches his fist in front of him, granting a unique buff that fills the Total Clarity gauge automatically.
- "Perfect": Ignis holds out a dish, granting the previous buff and making him immune to damage and stagger.
Tips[]
Eating recipes can be strategically done to allow the party to maintain boosts and beneficial statuses in tandem with those granted by accessories and outfits. For example, gaining Resilient from eating a recipe allows the team an extra accessory slot if one needs status protection. Consuming higher level parameter-specific stat raising recipes, such as Blazing Braised Gizzard or Elegant Orange Cake, stacks with boosts from equipment.
Legendary Grilled Whopper, Memory Lane Pastry, Packed Mushroom Stew and Plump 'n' Pungent Tofu can be eaten for a double-edged high risk high reward boost, or for a challenge in difficulty.
It is advised to buy Kenny's Salmon and Kenny's Special Recipe early so Ignis can recreate them, as they provide an especially strong status boost. The salmon for these recipes can be found at Rachsia Bridge fishing spot spot (east from Rock of Ravatogh, southwest of Tollhends Stronghold parking spot), and only need a cheap garlic to recreate. Fishing for the salmon and cooking it allows the player to simultaneously develop Noctis's fishing skills and Ignis's cooking skills efficiently and cheaply.
When a recipe that buffs max HP wears off, depleted max HP can be restored in the process.

List of ingredients[]
Ingredients can be procured from shops, monster drops, quest rewards, fishing and procurement points.
Other appearances[]
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia[]
Ignis can use the Quick Recipeh command by default, in which he breaks out his camping gear and begins cooking to buff the party. When all passive abilities are taken into account, Ignis can produce either a Memory Lane Pastry or a Papa Bird and Baby Bowl. His HP and BRV attacks change for several turns according to the choice made.
Behind the scenes[]
Development[]
Camping was planned to be an integral part of the gameplay loop on the open world since the beginning of development, and collecting recipes was one element in it. The camp team was able to create high quality graphics for the food in the pre-production phase. Creating the in-game dishes sometimes involved working from photos, but frequently involved cooking the recipes.[1]
Creating a recipe started in the art department, where the ingredients and desired appearance were planned out. Another team then cooked it on a camp stove outdoors. The completed dishes were photographed from various angles and scanned to create 3D data for the digital artists to work with. The digital art team also handled and tasted the physical dishes prepared by the food team and their ingredients, and the 3D data was tweaked as necessary. Food was intended to be a part of the expression of each city's culture, and the team wanted to give the impression of traveling long distances by showing how culinary cultures change by region.[1]
The notebook Ignis uses to write down recipes seems to be a modified model of the Lovers' Notebook , as it has a pressed sylleblossom on the page next to the one he writes on. This is not visible in a normal playthrough, as the default camera only ever shows the cover.
"That's it! I've come up with a new recipe!"[]
Ignis's "That's it! I've come up with a new recipe!" exclamation, and his tendency to say it even during tense situations, has become something of a meme, which Square Enix has gladly fueled. During the Moogle Chocobo Carnival and the Assassin's Festival, when purchasing food from the Square Enix Café, Noctis imitates Ignis's lines "I've come up with a new recipe!". Ignis's "god speed cooking" technique from the Japanese version, is localized as "Quick Recipeh", in allusion to the exaggerated way Ignis speaks in English.
After catching Styrial Bluefin Tuna in the Royal and Windows Editions, Gladiolus asks if there was anything Ignis was going to say, but Ignis says he already had a "recipeh" in mind. According to the Episode Carbuncle comic #6,[2] Ignis had practiced making sushi to advise Noctis who had taken a part time job as a sushi restaurant. Noctis's part time job is mentioned by the party if the player passes by the sushi place in Chapter 14.
Allusions[]
The Memory Lane Pastry recipe alludes to Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV, where Ignis tried to recreate a Tenebraen treat Noctis had enjoyed there, but never got the ingredients quite right. He seems to have finally mastered it in Final Fantasy XV, where the missing ingredient seems to have been Ulwaat Berries obtained from Tony at Caem.
The Semur Skewers dish is seen in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV at Yamachang's street food joint. Its game version debuted in the Assassin's Festival where it was specified as Galahdian cuisine.
The cookbook series Iron Shelf that teaches Ignis new recipes is a parody of Iron Chef, a Japanese television cooking show.
Curiosities[]
When Gladiolus is not in the party in Chapter 7 and Ignis creates a new recipe, his situational dialog with Gladiolus can still trigger, but only Ignis's lines will be heard.
The Plump 'n' Pungent Tofu dish added in a patch has a unique camp scene, where the party, aside from Ignis, appears disgusted by the dish.
Camping in Episode Gladiolus has him and Cor eat Cup Noodles. Episode Prompto has Prompto eat canned food while longing after Ignis's cooking. In Episode Ignis, Ignis has a can of Ebony from a vending machine. In Episode Ardyn, Ardyn sits on a bench reading a magazine, also enjoying an Ebony.
