Hill Gigas (Final Fantasy)

The Hill Gigas, also known as the GIANT, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy. It is initially encountered one of the strongest enemies in the Cavern of Earth, and is a common enemy for the mid-portion of the game thereafter. In pre-Pixel Remaster releases, the corridor west of the entrance in the Cavern of Earth features Hill Gigas fixed encounters on every tile, making for an effective level grinding location.

Gigas is a Greek word meaning "giant", originally used to describe the race of Gigantes in Greek mythology and is used in the scientific name, as the specific epithet, of hundreds of species of animals and dozens of plant species to denote their size.

[view · edit · purge]The mythology and legends of many different cultures include monsters of human appearance but prodigious size and strength. Giant is the English word, coined 1297, commonly used for such beings, derived from one of the most famed examples: the gigantes of Greek mythology.
