Unten (Japanese/Mandarin Chinese: 運天 Unten/Yuntian) is the mascot of Fantendo and the main character of the Unten series, rebooted as Prodigy in 2014. Unten was created by Plumber (t∣b∣c), and first appeared in the game Fissure; they are free to use as a character for any Fantendo user’s creative endeavors.
Originally, only Unten's head was designed. Today, they are a blue bear-like character called a Beorn. Unten has been portrayed with various powers such as latent electric abilities.
Unten is the adoptive son of Chief Dongorio, who resides in Peaceful Plains on the planet Zeon. After Zeon's destruction, Unten is one of the last Beorns who are still alive, and was considered an endling in some works without other Beorn characters.
Outside of their home series, Unten appears in many other games as one of Fantendo's most commonly used characters. They have a consistent focus in the Fantendoverse, which often strives to continue Unten's story.
Appearance
As a Beorn, Unten resembles a bipedal bear with simplistic limbs. Their eyes have black scleras and white (or bright blue) pupils shaped like four-pointed stars. They have rounded blue ears with black canals (sometimes with three ridges inside each ear). A darker blue fur color fades from the ends of their hands and feet, and sometimes the bottom of their stomach. They are sometimes depicted with small claws that can pop out from under their fur.
Though not initially depicted with clothes, Unten has taken on multiple outfits over the series. He mainly covers his neck with a bandana, a scarf, or a cloak. In the Boundless Fantendoverse, Unten wears a black poncho with a shiny, light-blue metallic edge that changes color depending on the power they use. For example, when they turn into their Midas Form, the edge becomes golden.
Personality
Unten's characterization differs between appearances. In their original iteration, they are meant to be a silent hero. Unten starts their adventure with very few skills, but learns quickly. Despite having some strength and toughness due to their Beorn heritage, they have a candid personality.
Unten shows some heroic behavior, choosing to follow their own mission to save their planet and people in requesting peace among Zeon and the defeat of Doomulus Grime.
New Fantendoverse
- Main article: Unten Bluzen
Continuing the goal of the Prodigy reboot, the New Fantendoverse develops a stronger personality for Unten. He is the universe's biggest hero, but by obligation, not choice. He deals with trauma about Zeon and other events for which he feels responsible. He has developed a martyr complex, often plunging into voids to save everyone.
Unten's personal mission is to recover the Beorn race, despite even other Beorns seeming not to care. He is genuinely nice, respects his friends' decisions regardless of agreeing with them, and would rather reason with his enemies than fight. Unten follows visions from his dreams, even if they seem fairly silly.
History
Backstory
- See also: Opening the Fissure
Unten's past is deliberately mysterious, similar to Kirby. Attempts at trying to explain their origins before fighting Doomulus Grime are either rare or obscure, so the full picture is unclear.
In Fantendo Origins and later Fissure! (June 2022), Unten is raised by the Treefolk Gnarled I and Rose Tree before being adopted into the Baraenion Tribe by Chief Dongorio. Fantendo Origins sees Unten create the deities The Balance and The Internet, who retroactively describe themselves as the parents of The Fan and The Enemy. This may suggest that Unten's actions helped establish the Fantendoverse.
In Unten: Mistaken Time, Unten's biological father is a scientist who created Grime, and the Doomuli eventually turn him a robot. In the New Fantendoverse, Unten's biological father is Xaviel Bluzen, who is revealed to have been converted into Doomulus Regime in Fantendo - Doomed.
The Prodigy series introduces a plot element involving a Zeonian prophecy that claims a blue Beorn will bring down a powerful evil. Unten believes this evil to be Grime Corp, and that the prophecy will be completed if he manages to save Zeon from its tyranny. Later in the series, other Beorns, particularly Boare arrive who believe themselves to be the hero of the same prophecy, though it becomes obvious that Unten is the true subject of the prophecy. In Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, Unten realizes that the prophecy actually refers to defeating Clockwarx and finally fulfills his role in the prophecy. However, when the prophecy repeats in the New Fantendoverse timeline, Unten never manages to fulfill it.
TOSWLUNTIDONWR
That One Series With a Long and Uninteresting Name That I Do Not Wish to Remember establishes that Unten may be the last of his kind, and is adopted by Chief Dongorio, leader of the Baraenion Tribe on the planet Zeon. After substantial training, Unten became both athletically and mentally skilled.
In Fissure, Doomulus Nine's use of the GigaDrill suddenly opens a giant fissure that splits Zeon in half. Unten is separated from Dongorio and the tribe. He learns of Doomulus Grime's plot to drain Zeon's life and use it to his own ends, and that Grime is only one member of the Doomuli organization. In Fissure II: Underground, Unten navigates the previously-hidden underground societies of Zeon after Doomulus Grime's fissure has revealed entrances to them. In the five Tragedy games, Unten goes to space to fight all nine Doomuli and free the other planets they control. In Liberation, Unten defeats the Doomuli leader Doomulus Prime and frees the galaxy from the Doomuli Organization.
TOSWLUNTIDONWR follow-up projects
In the game Unten, Unten's ship crashes on the planet Tiktok. Unten has to save the planet from total destruction by defeating The Darkness.
In Unten: Mistaken Time, Unten searches for his biological father after defeating Doomulus Grime. She discovers that many other Beorns, including her father who has been converted into a robot, have survived inside a Doomuli Organization prison. Unten helps the other Beorns to break out of prison and later navigates a paradox timeline to defeat the Catalyst Doomulus Slice.
Fantendoverse
Unten plays a significant role in the original Fantendoverse.
In Fantendo Heroes UNITE!!!, Unten appears as King Plumber's silent companion. Later, he comes out of nowhere and stabs Querius in the chest. He then sacrifices himself in an attempt to stop the Void from enveloping and destroying Fantendo. Her attempt is unsuccessful, and it is implied that he is killed. Unten later appears in a "tornado of light" at the entrance to the Forest of Fan, where they bestow the Light Sword to Sam.
Despite his death, Unten inexplicably reappears again in the sequel, Fantendo Heroes 2, possibly implied to actually be a clone of Sam created by Nightwolf. She assists Mr. D, Ludwig, and Luz to defeat the Beast unleashed by Querius.
In Fantendo - Playing War, Unten helps Strafe and others on a quest in The Wasteland. A mysterious figure informs him that Zeon has been lost to a void of infinite blankness. One day, Unten faces his fear of returning by taking a spaceship to Zeon's former location. There, he meets and befriends a surviving girl named Thorn.
Unten and Thorn return to help Strafe and company. Unten is revealed to have a spaceship that was put in deep space in case of an emergency. He sends the ship down so that the heroes can destroy Robo-Sunnyscythe V2. Afterwards, time freezes and a black hole forms in the ship. The Fan's voice declares that a sacrifice must be made to save all universes. Unten and Thorn oblige, entering the black hole. The ship brings the heroes back to their restored universe, where they dedicate the hill that they are standing on to Unten.
Some time after the events of Playing War, Unten learns that Thorn is a siren and distances themself from her. Unten is presumed to have been involved in The Recolor War during this time.
In Fantendo Visual Novel: Fracture, Unten appears in another dimension along with other heroes, including Leah Needlenam and Reese. Unten is briefly brainwashed by Abbadon but comes back to his senses after a short skirmish with the other heroes. Unten also learns about an impending cataclysm called the Shattering before returning to the Fantendoverse.
Prodigy
The Prodigy reboot series was published alongside the original Fantendoverse stories, and established a new backstory that does not follow the unfinished original series. This plot was widely taken as standard until 2022, when research and interviews revealed more of Plumber's original creative vision.
In Fissure (2014), Unten has been on the run for years. He meets Chief Dongorio, Zerita, and Mioda (then named Mondo) at a village, and learns that he is prophesied to defeat Doomulus Grime. Unten is sent out when Grime Bots attack. When the Narobi-Trons task him with saving Queen Pixella, Unten seems to fail, but a disembodied Pixella clears his name, avoiding his execution. Unten later teams up with Fanti and Zerita. They attack Grime Corp factories, getting Doomulus Grime's attention. After several attacks, Grime's new robotic clone, UN10, abducts Unten to one of Grime Corp's main buildings. Unten watches Doomulus Grime torture and kill Chief Dongorio, then move onto Zerita. Briefly believing her dead too, Unten attacks Grime with Fanti. Unten and Zerita defeat Grime but part ways on bad terms.
In Underground (2014), a year later, Unten and Zerita follow Grime underground. Forced into a gladiator tournament, Unten beats champion Kaio. Unten must then contend with Boare and Sia, who think they are the prophesied hero. When Unten and Zerita are captured and imprisoned, she and Fanti forsake Unten for Boare. Unten breaks out and helps Queen Pixella, who reassures him. He battles and teams up with Boare, Zerita, Fanti, Netnu (née Kaio), and Sia. They break into Grime Corp. and rescue hostages from execution. Unten ends a brawl with Doomulus Grime by kicking him into a chasm, which unobservedly leads to an ancient drill.
In Tragedy (2015), three years later, Unten's dreams foretell Zeon's destruction. In the Narobi-Tron kingdom, Unten begins fending off a new robot, UNT3N—and Spunten, who claims to be Unten's brother—as an assassin stalks him. Over dinner the next day, Sia's parents blame Unten for Sia shirking responsibilities. Later, Unten learns that Doomulus Grime is powering the planet drill. He loses Fanti to defeat UNT3N. Unten ultimately defeats Grime one-on-one. While Grime escapes, Unten agonizes over a likely fatal chance to stop the drill, but declines. En route to flee Zeon, he fights off a hivemind called the Darkness with Mioda's help. Unten leaves Mioda behind at her behest, and sees the ground collapse under Zerita. Spunten boosts him into an escape pod, from which Unten watches Zeon's destruction and blames himself.
Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered
In Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, Unten suffers from an identity crisis after learning that she has unconsciously been using Catalyst powers to change the past around her failure to save Zeon from Doomulus Grime's drill in the Prodigy series to escape their trauma, leaving a massive Fracture in the Fantendoverse timeline. Unten eventually understands his role and responsibility, and they lead an army of Fantendo characters to destroy Clockwarx during the Shattering.
New Fantendoverse
- Main article: Unten Bluzen
As of Fantendo - Genesis, Unten lacks Catalyst abilities. After the events of the Prodigy series recur in the New Fantendoverse, Unten lands on Earth. The FBI captures him and sends him after The Threat's underling, Six. Rachel Harel helps Unten escape. In Fantendo Now, Unten goes on missions for The Fan and The Enemy, and trains Six, who renames to Quartz.
In Fantendo Smash Bros. Victory, Unten learns that The Fan and The Enemy created the New Fantendoverse in The Threat's domain, as well as the Doomuli to protect themselves from Beorns' Descension ability. Unten Descends The Threat, The Fan, and The Enemy, ending their war.

Powers and abilities
Unten's abilities were initially somewhat vague. They were assumed to have good fighting abilities, but not necessarily any actual powers. Later appearances give Unten latent electrical abilities, which Fanti can harness.
Midas Unten
In one of Unten's earliest powers, when they eat a Glistening Blump fruit, they become Midas Unten. In this form, their body turns golden, they can transmute everything they touch into gold.
Electrical abilities
Unten is increasingly depicted with limited electrical abilities, able to channel lightning out of their fists if they have enough energy. When teamed up with Fanti or using Blump fruits, power supply is no longer an issue. When Unten and Fanti combine their power, they can execute more advanced abilities like hyper-speed or electrokinesis.
Catalyst
In Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, Unten is a Catalyst, a character with the power to create and travel between timelines at the expense of starting a Fracture. Due to the trauma Unten endured in Tragedy (2015), his mind began to warp the past and create thousands of different timelines where Zeon's future was entirely different. This also sent some characters into the Wasteland. In the New Fantendoverse, his Catalyst powers emerged into a new form called Tennu.
Descension
As of Fantendo - Genesis, Unten can use Descension, the power to strip deities of their status and powers. According to Fantendo Smash Bros. Victory, he can only use it once, and does so to Descend three deities simultaneously.
Imperium
In Beorn Hallow, Unten obtains a blade of sorts called Imperium. This blade can change size and length as well as a curve, but it has a mind of its own. Unten can also communicate with The Silent One and obtain knowledge from her as well as her thoughts on questions he asks.
Hyper Form
In the New Fantendoverse, Unten can use Hyper Mode Orbs to increase his power; Imperium becomes Bleeding Imperium in this form. However, the power is addictive and influences Unten to succumb to more primal tendencies.
Unten's appearance drastically changes, becoming taller and his upper limbs becoming thinner with visible claws. His ears gain spikes, his torso becomes shaggier, and his lower limbs become taller and shaggier. He also takes on a dark color palette.
After Unten overuses his Hyper Form, his Hyper Orb grows a black blemish. If he continues to use it, he instead activates Nega Mode, where his claws are his only remaining method of attack. He is depicted as rather scared and frightened in this form. The pupils are the only thing visible on his face, and he gains a darker color overall.
Healing and resurrection
Unten's blood has been used to heal characters and even bring them back to life after a mortal wound, like Fenne.
Dream vision
Unten sometimes receives visions from the future through his dreams. At one point, they can communicate with other characters through their dreams, mainly Boare.
Relationships
New Fantendoverse
Zerita
Unten's closest friend as of Tragedy (2015). Even though they've been through some ups and downs, the two are incredibly powerful together. During the events of Fissure (2014), she appears sporadically, often doubting Unten's role in his prophecy and at the end of the game refuses to speak to him concerning Chief Dongorio's death.
In Underground (2015), their relationship is back on speaking terms but it's shown that Zerita still does not have much faith in Unten when she leaves him to join Boare. Towards the end of the game, she finally respects his role in the prophecy. In Tragedy (2015), Zerita is depicted as Unten's closest friend. Towards the end, Zerita is unable to find Unten at the launch-off site, nearly forfeiting her chance to get off planet by waiting for Unten. When she finally sees Unten at the launch-off site, she is attacked by a couple of Grimebots and is thought to be dead by Unten, but she was able to defeat them in time but assumes Unten is dead, sadly getting into her escape ship alone.
Fanti
Fanti is one of Unten's closest friends, often slinked around his shoulders. He uses his powers to assist Unten, who has similar abilities but nowhere near as powerful. He briefly leaves Unten to team up with Boare in Underground (2014), but he returns later. In Tragedy (2015), Unten has a holster for him to rest in on his back.
During Tragedy (2015), it was revealed that Fanti was a AI that was given form through force. The Narobi-Trons, his former people outcast him for abandoning his metal form and it was there that he met Unten. During the battle with UNT3N, as Unten and Fanti are cornered and about to be killed, Fanti possesses UNT3N's body and forces him off a cliff, aware that he would be bringing himself down as well. He now lives in the broken parts of UNT3N's body, scattered through space for possibly all time.
Doomulus Grime
One of Unten's biggest enemies and one of the few he hasn't made amends with. During Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, Unten had to begrudgingly team up with Doomulus to exit Earth. In all the Prodigy games, there is a final battle with Doomulus Grime. Doomulus Grime doesn't consider Unten worthy of being his foe until Tragedy (2015) and after being defeated one last time he begins to reconsider a lot.
During Fantendo - Genesis, it's seen that Unten is haunted by visions of a skeletal Doomulus Grime, implying he may be afraid of Doomulus Grime and a possible return of him. It's implied that Unten believes Doomulus Grime is dead, when Doomulus Grime was seen escaping after his defeat.
Mondo/Mioda
Mondo, for the longest time, did not like Unten. Capturing the attention of his father and his adopted sister as well as being seen as a hero made Mondo bitter and envious of Unten's role. During Underground (2014), Mondo left Zeon in a rocket pod and seeked for his purpose in life, although not before making the prophecy his father had told Unten and the others public. During this time, Mondo found a new identity as a woman named Mioda and came back to Zeon as a hunter. By then she had matured enough to accept Unten as the hero Zeon needed.
Chief Dongorio
Before his murder by Doomulus Grime, Chief Dongorio was something of a father to Unten. He learned of the prophecy from him and while he tried to prevent his murder, he couldn't.
Thorn
Thorn and Unten first met in Playing War, where Unten went back to the remains of Zeon and found Thorn there, who was looking for her father who turned out to be dead. The two fell in love and at the end of Playing War sacrificed themselves in the Void. During their time in the Void, Thorn revealed herself to be a Siren, using spells to make Unten fall in love with her to eventually kill him later in secluded area. Unten manages to escape.
In Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, they are still on rocky ground but can still work together within a team.
Denos
Denos was a traveler that was seeking knowledge about Zeon and learned of the procephy. Although the two never officially met in any kind of real matter, Denos was still aware of Unten's role in the prophecy and after Zeon exploded he spent time gathering information on what he could on Unten, knowing he was a Catalyst shortly after the Zeon explosion. His memory was unchanged every single time Unten inadvertently changed the past, but locating Unten was difficult without the use of the Fracture. Sometime after the Recolor War he found it and began to reside there, careful not to awaken Clockwarx and searched for hints of Unten's true past.
In Fantendo Smash Bros. Shattered, he finally meets Unten and explains his vast knowledge about who Unten and what his purpose is. In the New Universe that follows, Denos is still following Unten, his mind still unchanged from the events that unfolded in Shattered.
Leah Needlenam
Leah sees him as a rival of sorts and doesn't support his leadership although the two often are forced to team up against bigger evils like Abaddon and Gagmier. Despite how many times Unten has been betrayed by Leah, he still considers her a friend.
Rachel
After being found by Rachel near Noah in Fantendo - Genesis, the two slowly became friends over the course of the rest of the adventure. Exhausted and depressed from the destruction of Zeon, Unten didn't take too kindly to having to save another planet again, but as the two became closer Unten's attitude towards the situation changed as well. They are close friends afterwards, although Unten has been implied to have feelings for her, feelings that she has not picked up on.

Trivia
- Unten was created in Adobe Illustrator by Fantendo’s Founder, Plumber (t∣b∣c). They were created to serve as the Fantendo mascot (hence the black and blue design), and a character for everyone to use. This is why Unten is genderqueer.
- An original alternate name of Fantendo was Untendo, which is the inspiration for Unten’s name.
- In his classic iteration, it was stated that Unten’s culture does not use surnames, so Unten didn't have a last name. With the New Fantendoverse, a last name for Unten was conceived by both users Exotoro and PabloDePablo, to branch Unten apart from his original version. Following a story where Unten decides to give himself a last name, it was finally decided that Unten's last name is Bluzen. When the New Fantendoverse ended, Unten lost his last name again.
- Unten is the first original Scrimblo Bimblo of Fantendo.
