Lichdragon Fortissax is a boss in Elden Ring.
Overview[]
Fortissax is an Ancient Dragon who was once known as the "mightiest boulderstone", known for its use of twin red lightning stakes[1], and the sibling of Ancient Dragon Lansseax.[2]
During the Age of the Erdtree, the Ancient Dragons warred against the forces of Leyndell, after an assault on the royal capital by the great Ancient Dragon Gransax.[3] Fortissax was challenged by Godwyn the Golden, who fought to the last[4]. Godwyn defeated Fortissax, but he befriended his fallen foe, and their bond gave rise to the Ancient Dragon Cult of the Royal Capital.[5] Through this friendship, Godwyn gained the ability to wield golden lightning, while the dragons gained acceptance as part of the Golden Order.[6]
On the Night of Black Knives, Godwyn was slain by assassins.[7] Godwyn would die in soul alone, with his body condemned to undeath, as it mutated beyond recognition.[8] Fortissax fought long and hard against the death within its companion, becoming corrupted by death in the process.[9] The Lichdragon is encountered within the Deathbed Dream after securing the Cursemark of Death and giving it to Fia, another companion of Godwyn's. Following Fortissax's defeat, Fia gestates the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince, which may usher in an age of death restored.[10]
As well as being able to breathe fire like other Ancient Dragons, Fortissax possesses the ability to summon a storm of gold and black lightning bolts which cover a wide area and inflict Death Blight. It can also summon a bolt of red lightning, which it slams into the ground, releasing waves of red lightning in multiple directions. After its health has been reduced to 60%, it gains the ability to summon two lightning spears at once, as well as a divebomb ability which is followed by a spinning attack using a lightning glaive.
