Parthenia is a city and country in Dragon Quest IV. Once a mighty empire, famed for its special medicinal herbs, successive droughts have led to its decline, with its capital now resembling little more than a small agrarian village.

Story[]

After Kiryl is taken ill in Mintos, Alena sets off for Parthenia in search of the feverfew root, a special medicinal herb said to cure any illness. Borya, concerned about the Tsarevna setting off on her own, convinces the Hero and their party to follow after her.

Upon arriving in Parthenia, the party find nothing more than a small, impoverished village, learning that droughts have all but eliminated the feverfew crop from the area. A supply of feverfew seeds remain in the nearby Imperial Pantry of Parthenia, but are inaccessible due to the arrival of monsters. Hearing that Alena has already headed to the cave with a small band of adventurers, the party follow in pursuit. Finding her making little headway but unwilling to co-operate, they are ultimately left to find the feverfew seeds themselves. Successful, they rush back to the city to plant the seeds, which rapidly begin to grow. With their livelihoods now saved, the grateful Parthenians gift the party with the needed feverfew root, which they promptly take back to Kiryl.
