Atlas is a recurring boss monster in the Dragon Quest series, being most recognisable as one of Hargon’s henchmen in Dragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Atlas is a hulking orange cyclops with a horn on his head, an oaken club in his hand, and a blue toga wrapped around his chest and waist.
Sometimes, Atlas is depicted being heavily scarred, with multiple gashes on his arms, legs, torso, and even his head, emphasizing his battle-hungry personality.
Personality[]
Much like the ancient Titan he was named after, Atlas is all at once imposing, strong, and slow to act. A properly equipped party will find him mostly inaccurate insofar as hitting his intended target, but he also tends to land critical hits more than most other monsters, making him a priority to defeat as quickly as possible.

Atlas is a heavy-hitting orange cyclops who resides in fairly high levelled grottoes. In this game, from his speech before the battle is hinted that he is one of the ten monsters that were created by Zenus' remains (due to Corvus' attack on the Observatory): in fact he says "WHY YOU TURN INTO TREE!?", probably referring to Celestria's transformation into a tree, rather than one of the Trinity.

Atlas strikes twice per turn, and has enormous attack. His only skill is Crackerwhack, an attack skill that hits the entire party at once. He does not know Disruptive Wave, so Kabuff is highly recommended. The Paladin's Coup de Grace, Knight Watch, is also useful, as this can tie him up for several turns.
Strategy:
You'll want to have at least one Sage with you, and a Paladin. Your Sage should cast Twocus Pocus on the first turn if it can, if not then just go straight to Kabuff. Afterwards, you'll want to apply Funereal Fource and Gritty Ditty to your party. As Atlas doesn't have Disruptive Wave, you won't have to constantly renew your Kabuff, so if you have access to it and you're not constantly healing your party, try to use Channel Anger and then use Kazam or Kazammle on him for damage support. With or without Twocus Pocus, this will do a decent amount of damage.

Heroes series[]
Dragon Quest Heroes[]
Atlas appears in Dragon Quest Heroes as an optional boss fight. In order to fight Atlas, first, each of the rematches against the main story bosses, the Green dragon, the Gigantes, the three Killing machines, the Boss troll and Cosmic chimaera duo, the Stone guardian, the Grim golem, the Marquis de Léon, the Serpent of the scales, the Darkling, the Demon-at-arms and Überkilling machine duo, the Barbatos, and the King Hydra, must be won with at least a silver time trial rank, as doing so rewards the heroes with a map leading towards a match against a Veteran Monster version of said boss; these Veteran Monster fights become available immediately after defeating Shadroth. Once all of the Veteran Monsters have been defeated at least once, then the encounter against Atlas becomes available.
Atlas's fight is similar to the previous boss fight against the Gigantes, with the difference that Atlas hits much, much harder, and has many more hit points; furthermore, he summons a Belial and a Pazuzu, as well as Mawkeepers, whose Nightmaws can summon even Green dragons if not kept in check. It is important that both Atlas and his minions are kept away from an Yggdrasil's root, as its destruction will immediately end the fight prematurely.
After winning the fight for the first time, the heroes are rewarded with an Elevating orb. Successive winnings will give different rewards depending of the time spent during the fight, with a golden rank rewarding 1 Mini medal, and a silver rank giving 30000 gold.
Unlike all the Veteran Monsters, Bjørn the Behemoose, Nokturnus, and Zoma, the completion of the golden rank time trial will not, for some reason, appear in Atlas's personal page in the Defeated Monsters sections of the Battle Records, with a "Time Trial Completed!" label, this being the only post-game fight that does not get said label.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
Atlas appears during the main storylne of Dragon Quest Heroes II as a brief but major role; after the King of Harba sacrificed himself with an Harban heirloon in order to temporaly stop the advance of the gigantic Drakulard, the heroes used the precious time granted to them to climb Mount Neverest, in order to retrive a legendary weapon, a weapon so mighty that one thousands years prior tipped the balance of the War of Kings towards Unos's side.
There they found Gragwort, who informed them that, in order for him to host the trial necessary to retrieve the weapon, he first needed them to retrieve the legendary Trinity Stone from one of the pyramids in Dunisia. After retriving the Trinity Stone, a task made more difficult by the spirit of the first king of Dunisia, Dunis I, who had mistaken the group for graverobbers, the heroes returned to Gragworth, who then used the Trinity Stone to summon Pazuzu, Belial, and Atlas. The three monsters tested the group to see if they were worthy of their power, ending with a battle against mighty Atlas himself, after which the heroes finally got their hands on the legendary weapon, a small, unassuming container.
Said weapon turns out to be a Monster Medal of Atlas himself, who is then controlled by the heroes to wipe out the hordes of attacking monsters, and defeat the Drakulard once and for all. After this, Atlas and his medal vanishes, never to be seen again. The battle was far from over however, as more troops, personally commanded by the King of Al-Khazam, approached; fortunately the group is then joined by the arriving Kiryl and Alena, turning the ties of battle in their favor.

Builders series[]
Dragon Quest Builders 2[]
Atlas is the ultimate antagonist of chapter 3. He holds dominion of the island of Moonbrooke and is the top authority of the portion of the Children of Hargon on the island. He enjoys toying with the Builder and the people of Moonbrooke by waiting for them to become hopeful-by rebuilding Moonbrooke castle-before attacking. He is defeated by the Kazapple Cannon built by the Builder with the help of the King of Moonbrooke.
Additionally, a shadow fiend manifestation of Atlas appears in Hargon's Castle, reflecting his appearance in Dragon Quest II in the same location. Though he simply dissipates without putting up much of a fight. Of Hargon's Trinity, Atlas is the only one to appear in the story proper, Belial's and Pazuzu's shadow fiend vestiges are their only appearances in Dragon Quest Builders 2.
