Ibis was a powerful Skywing Elf mage. He had long been a liaison between elves and dragons, and his visits to the Storm Spire had grown more frequent since the death of Avizandum.[3] He was killed by Terry who stabbed him in the back.[4]
Appearance
Ibis had dark skin, blue eyes, and short, light periwinkle blue hair in an undercut style. There were various white markings stretched along his face, and runic style ones on his arms that would glow when performing spells. He had two curved horns on both sides of his head, and their coloration fading from dark to light.
Ibis was only shown wearing some type of silver elven armor, with a jutting neckpiece and a long green skirt. Underneath his outerwear, he had baggy lavender pants accompanied by similarly colored metal boots.
Personality
Ibis was one of the few elves that see the good in humans. He was not insulted by Callum commenting on him not having wings and admitted that few Skywing Elves are born with wings. Ibis seemed to care greatly for the Dragon Queen Zubeia, as he was overseeing her emotional and physical well-being and stating that she was emotionally gone. Ibis did laugh at Callum asking to teach him Sky magic, but became intrigued by seeing his connection to the Sky arcanum, saying it is unheard of. He also feared for the safety of Azymondias and ordered Callum to take him as far away from the Storm Spire as possible, knowing that if he fell into enemy hands, all hope would be lost.[5] Regardless, Ibis came back to offer his aid, showing he is loyal and courageous and that he knows where he stands despite the odds.[6]
Ibis took great pride in his occupation as one of the most powerful Sky mages in history who had mastered the four winds and was somewhat annoyed that he was reduced into a babysitter to Zym who had developed a rebellious streak for the past two years. However, Ibis continued to serve the dragons loyally, though he was willing to lie to avoid repercussions.[1]
Ibis disliked killing as he expressed reluctance to kill Claudia when the latter infiltrated the Storm Spire, but moved to do so to ensure that the relic staff would not fall back into the wrong hands.[7]
Skills and Abilities
Sky Primal Connection
As a Skywing Elf, Ibis drew power from the Sky and was at his strongest during a storm and at high altitudes.
Sky Magic Mastery
Ibis was a master of Sky magic who was able to cast several Sky magic spells without speaking the required incantations. He could also manipulate the wind without drawing any runes.[7] He has referred to himself as one of the most powerful Sky mages in history and a "legendary master of the four winds".[1]
- "Manus. Pluma. Volantus.": Upon speaking an incantation, the runes on Ibis's arms transformed them into wings, which enabled him to fly. He could choose to turn only one of his arms into a wing in order to hold his staff with the remaining arm.[8]
- "Ventum Magneticus": A spell that allowed Ibis to use the wind to summon objects into his hands like a magnet. He used it to retrieve the relic staff from Claudia.[7]
- "Aspiro Frigis": A spell that allowed Ibis to freeze objects. He used it to temporarily and partially freeze Claudia during their fight in the Storm Spire.[7]
- "Fulgur Mortifer": A spell that allowed Ibis to conjure a devastating lightning bolt. He attempted to use it on Claudia before he was stabbed in the back by Terry.[7]
- Last Breath: Before Ibis succumbed to the wound Terry gave him, he climbed to the pinnacle of the Storm Spire to cast a spell that transformed his dying breath into a message that would warn Zubeia about the impending return of Aaravos.[7]
Combatant
Aside from his mastery of Sky magic, Ibis was also a master combatant who could hold his own against powerful opponents such as Claudia.[7]
Equipment
- Sky Staff: Ibis carried a Sky staff embedded with a Sky Primal Stone[9] in the center, which was circled by metal plates resembling the wings of a bird. After his death, this staff was passed down to Callum.[10]
Trivia
- The name "Ibis" is of Latin origin and means "Long-legged Bird", which also applies to a type of real-life long-legged wading bird that inhabits wetlands, forests, and plains, and are distinguished by their long, curving beaks that they use to probe mud for food.[11]
- Ibis was originally imagined to be a wise, old man, who was possibly centuries old, similar to Gandalf from "The Lord of The Rings". However, his final design resulted in a younger look, which caused the crew to pick a younger voice actor.[12]
