Tidebound Elves are one of the six races of elves native to Xadia. They are connected to the magical energy of the Ocean. Their primary home is in Xadia's oceans, and their nexus is currently unknown.

Characteristics

Tidebound Elves commonly appear with skin colors including light or grayish blue, which shades off into white and darker blue colors on their fin-like features. The fins are present on their heads, shoulders, and limbs. These fins also replace their ears. On male Tidebound Elves, these fins can be colored in red shades and are significantly longer than the fins of the females.^[1] Their fingers are webbed for swimming and their neck sport gills that allow them to breathe underwater. Some Tidebound Elves are rumored to have bioluminescent features that help them navigate the abyss of the sea. Their horns can resemble corals^[2] or sea shells.^[3]

The garments of some Tidebound Elves appear to be skin-tight, with very little tailing off. As they are creatures attuned to the power of the Ocean, this proves extremely useful, as the excess material would only slow them down underwater. Additionally, they do not appear to partake in the use of conventional footwear.^[1]

Tidebound Elves possess a long lifespan that counts up to at least 300 years.^[3]

Abilities

Being connected to the Ocean Primal, Tidebound Elves are able to use magic that allows them to manipulate water. They are also able to breathe underwater and are exceptional swimmers.^[2]

Culture and Customs

Tidebound Elves are a general mystery outside of the ocean and have been mistaken for sea monsters in the past. Like sirens and mermaids, there appear to be both hostile and benevolent Tidebound Elves. Many rumors describe encounters with the elves, some located between the Pawprint Isles and Dragontail. The "Ripplers and Rumors" story may suggest or imply that Tidebound Elves can craft pendants from sea glass. When Tidebound Elves propose to individuals they are in a romantic relationship with, they adorn the pendants with love knots made of kelp.^[2]

Most Tidebound Elves live in the sea, far from the troubles caused by land dwellers.^[2]

History

Akiyu is an Archmage who was given the nickname "Tidebound Tina" by the other Tidebound Elves. She aided the Archdragons in imprisoning the rogue Startouch Elf Aaravos 300 years before the birth of Azymondias,^[3] though there are no records left of her in the modern era, even in Xadia's extensive libraries.^[2]

• Tidebound Elves are the only elven race whose name does not directly refer the Primal Source they are connected to (the Ocean).
