Banan (バナン) and Sūi (スーイ) are two humanoid aliens who work together as foot soldiers in the Frieza Force. While on Namek, they acted as Frieza's Reconnaissance Team.[2]

Concept and creation[]

Their names are derived from the fruits banana and suika (the latter being Japanese for watermelon).

Appearances[]

The appearance of Banan is marked by lilac-pigmented skin, horns, orange hair with a mustache and a blue scouter adorned over his face.

Sūi has purple-pigmented skin, a fin atop his head, a skull-like nose and wears a red scouter, which his Ray Gun connects to.

Biography[]

Dragon Ball Z[]

Saiyan Saga[]

Just as Goku's battle with Vegeta reached a close, Banan and Sūi were among those on Planet Frieza 79 picked by Dodoria and Zarbon to invade Namek which is described as a top-secret mission.[3]

Sūi

The partners are sent to investigate two unknown power levels detected by Zarbon on Namek. During their search, they encounter Bulma, Krillin and Gohan, the latter two being the source of these power levels, who had only recently touched down on Namek. At Banan's suggestion Sūi uses his Ray Gun to damage the group's spaceship, rendering them unable to leave the planet. In response they are easily overwhelmed by Krillin and Gohan, who had been suppressing their power levels (a tactic they learned from their experiences with the conflict against Vegeta and Nappa, who relied too heavily on the readings of their scouter, a standard issue accessory among Frieza's army). Banan is kicked in the face by Krillin and Sūi punched by Gohan, causing them to fall into a lake, where they die.

Power[]

Manga and Anime

They are quickly killed by Gohan and Krillin when the Earth warriors are using a power level of 1,500.

Statements by guidebooks and authors

According to Daizenshuu 7, they are lowest level warriors with power levels below 1,500.

Video games

According to the Dragon Ball Carddass, Banan and Sui's combined battle power is 2,800.

Appearances in Other Media[]

Video Game Appearances[]

Banan and Sūi were given their names in Goku Gekitōden, where they appear as recurring foes. Banan shown to be slightly stronger than Sūi: Sūi has 840 HP and BP, and Banan has 980 HP and BP. Also, the fighting style of Banan relies more on physical combat, while Sūi incorporates use of Energy Wave techniques.

Banan (バナン) (called "Bun" in the English version) also appears as a recurring foe with Appule in Super Saiya Densetsu. In this game, Banan gets two color edits as separate enemies: the green haired Beach (ビーチ Bīchi) (called "Bud" or "Cuel" in English versions) and the purple haired Grep (グレップ Gureppu) (called "Bund" or "Regne" in English versions).

They are seen in the background of the Frieza's Spaceship battle stage in Dragon Ball Z.

In Budokai, Banan and Sūi appear among the three soldiers seen on Earth with Frieza and King Cold (the third one being a Raspberry-esque soldier) in a cutscene of the Androids Saga.

Sūi and Banan, along with Appule, are regular enemies that appear on Namek and Earth in Harukanaru Densetsu.

Dokkan Battle Lethal Underling Frieza Soldier card (Frieza Force Reconnaissance Team Sūi)

Lethal Underling Frieza Soldier card featuring Sūi in Dokkan Battle

Both characters make appearances as generic Frieza Soldiers in Dokkan Battle. However, Sūi's Lethal Underling Frieza Soldier cards (this card is available in all five types AGL, STR, PHY, INT, & TEQ) are playable unlike the other generic Frieza Soldier cards. They can be obtained by defeating Lethal Underling Frieza Soldier enemies in Quest Mode. Additionally, Banan's non-playable card features a different coloration to what it was in the main series. Like his partner's card, Banan's non-playable card comes in all five card types.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Banan and Sūi are replaced by a Frieza Force Commando and Frieza Force Officer respectively who act as the Frieza Force Reconnaissance Team that finds Bulma, Gohan, and Krillin near their spaceship. As the Frieza Force Officer lacks an arm cannon, he damages the Spaceship with a Ki Blast instead though the Commando fulfills Banan's role by suggesting the Officer take out the ship to prevent the Earthlings from escaping. Like the original Reconnaissance Team, the Commando and Officer are defeated by Krillin and Gohan who had been concealing their power beforehand. As a result, Banan and Sūi do not appear in Kakarot.

Trivia[]

  • Similar characters to Banan and Sūi appeared in the climax to Bardock - The Father of Goku, where they were among the last soldiers that Bardock deals with. The Banan-esque soldier placed Bardock into a headlock, only releasing his grip after realizing Frieza emerged from the ship to inform him that he saw him emerge in obvious fear, while the Sūi-esque soldier hails Frieza while obviously in terror of his master's arrival, and later tries to beg Frieza not to get them caught in the crossfire of Planet Vegeta's destruction. It's clearly not them, however, as it was implied, they were killed from the Supernova engulfing them and the other combatants in its trajectory.
  • Another member of Banan's race, Strock, bears a near-identical resemblance to the former. The only difference that Strock's scouter is colored green.
  • Sūi is the first villain that Gohan kills in the manga and anime.
