Queen B. is the boss of the Vine Valley world of the Donkey Kong Island and the third boss overall in the game Donkey Kong Country. She is located in the stage Bumble B Rumble. Queen B. is a larger version of the Zingers, common bee enemies in the same game.

Overview[]

Super Family Computer/Super Nintendo Entertainment System version[]

In order to defeat this large Zinger in the Super Family Computer/Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country, Donkey and Diddy Kong will have to pick up a Vine Barrel (which will break upon contact or dropping with anything), and throw it at Queen B. Afterwards, she will become enraged and turn red out of rage, gaining resistance for a short period of time (much like the red Zingers, resistant enemies to regular barrels). Queen B. will vertically swoop up and down trying to hurt the Kongs, but if not hit for a while, she will calm down and another barrel will spawn. After receiving five hits, Queen B. is defeated.

Game Boy Color version[]

In the Game Boy Color version of Donkey Kong Country, Queen B. has very similar patterns of attacks to the SFC/SNES version. She is defeated after receiving five hits.

Game Boy Advance version[]

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country, after being hit, she will turn red and surround herself with other four or five regular sized Zingers to act as a defensive barrier and attack the Kongs. The regular Zingers must be all defeated with barrels to make Queen B. return to normal. In this version, she is also defeated after receiving five hits.

Trivia[]

  • In the GBA version of the game Donkey Kong Country, a hidden photograph of a Zinger can be found in the middle of the boss arena by using Donkey Kong's hand slap move on the ground.
  • Also in the GBA version, in the post-battle dialogue that occurs after Queen B. is defeated, Cranky Kong incorrectly refers to her as a male.
  • Also in the GBA version of the game Donkey Kong Country, putting up a barrel right at her (much easier to accomplish with Donkey Kong) will have her Zinger minions be defeated instantly due to the barrel's hitbox affecting them all at once before they spread out to form their formation. However, doing this during certain phases of the battle will cause Queen B. to instantly transition to her normal flight path instead of delaying first, which can spell an instant defeat surprise for those who are not prepared.
  • King Zing, who would later appear as a boss on the game sequel, Donkey Kong Country 2, is believed to be her spouse.
  • Though she can gain resistance to regular barrels briefly during the boss battle, Queen B. could be considered inferior strength-wise to the red Zingers that always possess that resistance in later games. This also goes for her spouse, King Zing, in the game Donkey Kong Country 2.
