Kloak is ghost pirate Kremling enemies found in the game Donkey Kong Country 2. They float and are capable of summoning objects and other enemies to throw them down.

Overview

In Donkey Kong Country 2, Kloaks are relatively rare enemies appearing in the Krem Quay stage Barrel Bayou, the Krazy Kremland stage Bramble Scramble, the Gloomy Gulch stage Ghostly Grove, and The Flying Krock stage Screech's Sprint of the Crocodile Isle. After Diddy and Dixie Kong approaching Kloaks, they will be usually placed at high places. The enemies will just summon single objects, such as barrels, crates or Treasure Chests, or enemies, such as Spinies, Click-Clacks or Zingers, and throw them down at the ground, not necessarily trying to hit the Kongs. However, most of these projectiles could harm the primates upon contact, usually forcing the heroes to avoid them. Some Kloaks will just throw a single object/enemy and leave their current location, and others will keep throwing multiple projectiles at regular intervals.

Despite they floating in high places, Kloaks can be easily defeated by the Kongs throwing single objects at them, using the "Team-Up" move to throw the secondary character at them or shooting projectile attacks from Animal Buddies, such as Squitter the Spider and Squawks the Parrot. Additional, if the primates are able to jump on enemies or objects and gain some altitude, it is also possible to defeat Kloaks by using single bouncing attacks on them.

In some occasions, Kloaks can also throw down collectables or special objects. In the Krem Quay stage Barrel Bayou, there are two Kloaks which will throw down single banana bunches following some crates, if the player waits long enough. The Kloak present after the No Rambi Sign in the same stage will throw down three wooden barrels and fly towards the left direction. By the player following and keeping the enemy at the screen, the Kloak will stop before the edge of the current platform and throw down a Treasure Chest. The chest contains a Kannonball required to load a Kannon located earlier, allowing the primates to gain access to the first Bonus Room of the stage. Later in the same stage, two Kloaks will throw down Click-Clacks. After the second one throwing down two Click-Clacks, the Kloak will flee towards left, stop and throw down a Treasure Chest containing a green Extra Life Balloon. At the final section of the stage, a Kloak located next to a Bonus Barrel will throw down two wooden barrels and a Zinger. If the secondary character is missing, making impossible to use the "Team-Up" move, the player can bounce on the wooden barrels and reach the Bonus Barrel.

At the beginning of the Gloomy Gulch stage Ghostly Grove, a Kloak can be found partially hidden at the top of the screen. By waiting long enough, the enemy will eventually float down and throw down a banana bunch, and two Treasure Chests with Extra Life Balloons inside. In the Super Family Computer/Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 2, the balloons are red, and in the Game Boy Advance version, they are green.

A single Kloak also appears during the mission "Cool Sounds" at the Funky's Flights II in the world Gloomy Gulch of the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 2. At an icy setting, the primates must pilot the Gyrocopter and hit buttons to lower the water level in order to find Funky Kong's boombox[3]. The object is at the deepest location and it is guarded by a Kloak floating above it. Oddly, the wooden barrels thrown down by the enemy cannot damage the Gyrocopter, but direct contact between the Kloak and the vehicle will explode the airship on the spot. It is possible to fly under the Kloak and grab the Boombox without shooting down the enemy.

Physical Appearance

Kloaks are spiritual, headless beings with a green waistcoats containing buttons. They also have glowing red eyes coming from their waistcoats. At the ends of their waistcoats, it is colored beige, except for the bottom where it is yellow. These enemies appear to lack legs and instead levitate in midair.

"This mean-spirited spooks are on the lookout for any hairy intruders into their domain! Kackle haunts the Kremland amusement park, while Kloak fades in and out of several diferent areas. Dealing while Kloak is especially frustating, since he sometimes conjures up Zingers to block paths or items."

Trivia

  • According to the regular ending cutscene of the game Donkey Kong Country 2, Kloaks are members of the Kremling Kuthroats class.
  • Kloaks are one of the few enemies to not reappear in the game Donkey Kong Land 2.
  • Due to Krooks, also Kremling enemies from the game Donkey Kong Country 2, having similar clothes and shape to Kloaks, the latter could be undead versions of the former.
    • In the SFC/SNES version of Donkey Kong Country 2, the two enemy types also share the same sound effect (excluding Klingers) when defeated.[2]
    • In the GBA version of Donkey Kong Country 2, when Kloaks are defeated, they will make an evil laugh. The sound effect is called "Hollywoodedge, Evil Laugh CRT023801" from the album Cartoon Trax Volume 1. If the game gets paused the moment they are defeated, the sound effect will be played in its normal state instead of getting slower as the enemies fall off the screen.
      • The same sound effect is later used for Kroc, a Kremling enemy who uses a cursor to shoot fireballs, in the GBA version of the game Donkey Kong Country 3. In the game Donkey Kong 64, King K. Rool also uses an altered version of the same sound effect for laughing.
  • Kopters, flying enemies from the games Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land III, and Kloaks are the only Kremlings in the Donkey Kong game series capable of flying.
