"Truth, Justice and Songs in Our Key" is a song from "What Team?", the sixth episode of the first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. It is performed by the ensemble cast of students.
Summary[]
Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) is indefinitely suspended from her position after Principal Gutierrez discovers she lied about her teaching experience and credential during the application process. Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez) is forced to act as stand-in for Miss Jenn's directing duties and delivers the news to the cast when the pressure becomes unendurable.
The students discuss the positive impact that Miss Jenn has had on their schooling lives and decide to stand up for her. They band together to stage and rehearse a performance of the song at the school board meeting to convince the panel to continue employing Miss Jenn.
Lyrics[]
Kourtney:
Don't say another word
Nini:
Some of us need to be heard
Nini & Ashlyn:
You want her big confession
Kourtney:
She never saw Dear Evan Hansen
Ricky & Ashlyn:
Whatever you think about her
The show can't go on without her
Kourtney:
Maybe her class could be a little more classy
Ricky, Gina, Ashlyn & Kourtney:
Maybe her head's not in the game
Carlos:
Maybe her past is just a little bit sketchy
All:
We need her all the same
Seb:
She's the one who cheers us on
So what if she's dropping the ball?
All:
She stands for truth, justice and songs in our key
She stands for us and we believe
Ricky:
Before she got here, we were so off track
Gina:
Then Miss Jenn gave us a chance
Ashlyn:
We used to fall asleep in chemistry class
Ricky, Gina, Ashlyn & Kourtney:
Now it makes us want to dance
Natalie:
She's the show that must go on
So we're puttin' in a good word 'cause we heard
All:
She stands for truth, justice and songs in our key
She stands for us and we believe
Nini:
What's my motivation?
She provides the inspiration
Kourtney:
Whatever about her reputation
Seems about time for a modulation
All:
She stands for truth, justice and songs in our key
Jazz squares in the choreography
Sharpay and Ryan, you know they'd agree
She stands for us and we believe
She stands for us and we believe
