The Medieval Crossbow is an object featured in the Hong Kong Disneyland attraction Mystic Manor.
History[]
Background[]
The crossbow is a weapon placed on a ballista featured on a section representing armory. It was one of the rare artifacts collected by Lord Henry Mystic during his journey at Normandy[1] and is said to have existed in Normandy in the eleventh century. When Albert opened a mysterious music box, the crossbow and the rest of the artifacts started coming to life; however, after Albert closed it, the crossbow and the rest of the artifacts were reverted to their lifeless forms in time to prevent more havoc from being caused in Mystic Manor.
Role in the attraction[]
The crossbow is encountered in the Arms & Armour room where guests encounter it after passing through a trio of knights. Because of the magic brought to life via Balinese Music Box, the ballista controlling the crossbow started coming to life and attempted to fire an arrow at the guests but it misses, causing the guests to end up in the Egyptian Antiquities room. Since it is a trackless ride, each time guests ride in Mystic Manor and enter the Arms & Armour room, they will be taken to a different route: one which is the part with the crossbow and knights and the other one which leads to a mysterious suit of armor.
After Albert finally closes the music box, all the artifacts in Mystic Manor are brought to their lifeless forms with the vehicles returning back to the Acquisitions and Cataloging room. The crossbow and the rest of artifacts are brought to their lifeless forms after Albert closed the music box to prevent more havoc from being caused inside.
Trivia[]
- In an early version of Mystic Manor, a storyboard panel featured the Chinese armor arming itself with a crossbow attempting to shoot an arrow at Albert at the end of the attraction, but the armor failed to do so after Albert closed the Balinese Music Box, reverting it back to its lifeless form. The reason why this concept was scrapped is unknown.[2]
