Libba's Custom Tailoring is a location featured in the 2020 Disney/Pixar animated feature film Soul.
Background[]
Libba's Custom Tailoring is a tailor store owned by Libba Gardner, mother of Joe Gardner. Located next door to a Jamaican restaurant, it is where Libba tailors clothes for customers in her shop aided by her workers Melba and Lulu. When Joe visits his mother to get himself ready for the concert, she and Melba and Lulu get her suit ready for the concert, which Joe's mother tells her son that the suit he is about to wear is his father's suit. Within the exterior of the tailor store is a black awning with the words "Custom Tailoring & Alterations" engraved on it.
Role in the film[]
After Joe Gardner checks out after music class, he approaches his mother who is excited about her son getting a full-time job as a music teacher at middle school, telling him that playing music will be his new career, which Joe agrees. Joe later calls Curley who tells him that he is the new drummer in the Dorothea Williams Quartet at the Half Note Club, feeling excited that he would perform with Dorothea on stage just as he exits the tailor shop.
The area then appears again when Joe (who is controlled by 22) enters the tailoring shop where he encounters Melba and Lulu with Mr. Mittens (controlled by the soul version of Joe himself) on his shoulder where Joe approaches him and then decides to get a suit for the concert so he can perform with Dorothea Williams on stage at the Half Note Club. Joe then approaches his mother Libba about the struggles he has during his life especially when it comes to his career and after discussing with her, Libba then gives Joe his father's suit which Joe's mother tells Melba and Lulu to get Joe's suit ready, to which Joe feels satisfied of it. The location makes no further appearances after that.
