The Helm of Darkness is one of the many tools used by Hades. It was stolen by Luke Castellan and Ares, but returned by Percy Jackson.
Description[]
The Helm of Darkness looks like a typical Grecian helmet made of bronze with detailed markings. It is Hades' main item and he uses it to swiftly move in the shadows and hide from others. It is so powerful that other gods are incapable of seeing anyone who wears it.
Appearance[]
The Helm of Darkness was actually the true item that caused a lot of trouble for Percy Jackson. After it was stolen by Luke Castellan, and given to Ares for safekeeping, Hades was somehow convinced that Percy was behind the theft and sent his fury Alecto to get it from him by any means necessary. When Percy's mother, Sally Jackson, went up against the Minotaur, Hades snatched her away at the last minute to beckon Percy to him. Ironically, Percy believed that he was after Zeus' Master Bolt and went on a major quest to find it.
Eventually, Percy learned the truth and realized that Ares had the Helm, confronting him on the beach where he and his mother went all the time and fought him. Upon Ares' defeat, Percy got the Helm back and gave it to Alecto who took it back to Hades.
Trivia[]
- The Helm, much like Riptide, has the ability to disguise itself as another type of hat. It is almost similar to Annabeth Chase's invisibility cap, except it can also make one invisible to the gods, which the cap cannot do.
