Gabe Ugliano is a minor character in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He is the rude and unkempt step-father of Percy Jackson.
Background[]
Personality[]
Gabe is a loud, ignorant, and slightly inept human waste of space. He likes to believe that he owns everything that the Jacksons do, though in actuality, he is only fixated on his computer and the games he can bet on, which he considers his "job". He is shown to not be very bright and does not pay too much attention to things, but he seemed oddly impressed to hear that Percy was kicked out of school for fighting with someone.
Physical appearance[]
Gabe is a tall and unkempt person with longish hair and a stubble growing in. He is constantly wearing relaxing clothes as all he does is laze around the house all day.
Role in the series[]
Gabe Ugliano is a degenerate who somehow managed to marry the kind Sally Jackson and adopt her son Percy. Gabe spent most of his time at home making bad bets on races which he considered his "job". Unbeknownst to him, the reason why Sally chose to stay with him was to protect Percy from evil forces from Greek mythology, which Gabe remains completely oblivious to.
One day, Sally tells Gabe that she and Percy are going to the beach house to get away for the weekend. While Gabe is flummoxed over the sudden plan, he goes along with it, mainly with the promise that Sally would pick up his favorite sandwich. Gabe warns Percy about leaving foot prints in his car though. Sally and Percy would never come back as the car was found damaged and on the side of road. Rather than actually having any sort of sympathy, Gabe milked their disappearance by feigning sadness for Sally's disappearance and vilifying Percy has a disturbed child.
Gabe's self-victimizing would eventually come to an end when Percy and Sally showed up alive and well. With a newfound lease on life, Sally divorces and kicks Gabe out of her apartment. He attempts to get back at her with his own lawyer, but he turns out to be ill efficient. Gabe tries to get back in the apartment, but finds the locks have been changed. He finds a package that Percy had previously sent, returned to their doorstep. Curious to its contents, Gabe opens the package, sees something ugly, and is turned to stone.
Trivia[]
- Gabe remains relatively unchanged, though this version's personality is slightly toned down as the previous adaptations imply that he is physically abusive. His death was also caused intentionally by Sally who then passes off his petrified remains as an art piece. Gabe causing his own demise was a repeat from the film adaptation and was one of the few things Rick Riordan actually liked from that version.
- Prior to Timm Sharp portraying him, Gabe was played by Joe Pantoliano in the live-action film and James Hayden Rodriguez (who also played Luke Castellan, Ares, and the Minotaur) in the Broadway musical.
