Darkwing Duck: High Wave Robbery is a Darkwing Duck storybook released in the Disney Read-Along series.
Synopsis[]
The story starts off with Gosalyn practicing her clarinet for an upcoming school recital and Drake (a.k.a. Darkwing) telling her to quiet down so he can hear the police radio. He has a new case, when he hears of a crime, a robbery of paintings at the Rockerfeather Mansion. Gosalyn wants to come along, but Darkwing tells her to stay home. Launchpad goes with Darkwing, while telling him that Gosalyn was feeling sad and Launchpad was feeling unsafe, when riding with Darkwing to the mansion. When they get there, Joan D. Rockefeather is awoken by Darkwing's launch and she screams when she sees her paintings gone. Darkwing notices that the glass is shattered but that there's no further damage to the building. He finds a note saying that the next robbery would be at the opening of the Watson Theater.
Darkwing once again doesn't let Gosalyn go with him, and he and Launchpad are looking out for anything weird. One of the movie stars reveals themselves as Frequencia, as she and her goons are wearing earmuffs. Darkwing tries to stop Frequencia as she uses a machine to make a screech to knock everyone out. While swinging, Darkwing hears the screech, and he rips the screen. Frequencia laughs while boasting that they couldn't stop her even if she told them where she and her goons were. Darkwing and Launchpad wake up eventually, and find another note about a robbery of the City Gold Reserve. Darkwing is baffled, and Gosalyn suggests to help. Darkwing however denies her help and wants to stop Frequencia by himself, but Gosalyn is starting to become sad about Darkwing/Drake not coming to her recital. However, Darkwing agrees to go to the recital.
When they are at the recital, Darkwing (as Drake) and Launchpad are waiting to go to the gold reserve. When time comes for Gosalyn's solo, Launchpad's headfeathers stand on end, and Darkwing gets an idea. After Gosalyn finishes, Darkwing gets Gosalyn and tells her that she is needed to stop a crime. Gosalyn is armed with her clarinet at the gold reserve, while Darkwing and Launchpad are wearing earmuffs. Frequencia and her goons finally arrive, but Gosalyn is fast enough to play her clarinet before Freqencia is able to play her machine. In order to amplify the sound, Darkwing puts a microphone near Gosalyn's clarinet, as the sound also reverberates through the speakers, causing Frequencia and her goons to fall while her machine breaks.
Darkwing, Gosalyn, and Launchpad arrive back home, as Darkwing explains to Gosalyn about how he figured out how he could use Gosalyn and her clarinet in order to stop Frequencia by means of amplitude of the terrible sound. Gosalyn is saddened by her apparent lack of talent in playing the clarinet, but Darkwing assures her that the clarinet just wasn't right for her. Consequently, Gosalyn gets a tuba. As she starts playing, Darkwing's headfeathers stand on end, and he passes out.
Notes[]
- A comic book adaptation of this book was planned for issue #8 of Joe Books' Darkwing Duck revival comic, but was replaced with the second half of "Dawn of the Day of the Return of the Living Spud". (And due to Disney cancelling the Joe Books comic and replacing the creative team for the upcoming Dynamite Entertainment title, this story's comic adaptation will likely never see print.)
