The Aculos is an object from the 2020 Disney+ original film Artemis Fowl. It is an extremely valuable treasure of the fairies and is said to be a skeleton key which could open a portal between worlds.

Background[]

The Aculos takes the form of an upside-down golden acorn engraved with Gnommish symbols. It serves as a weapon of great power which was said to be so fearsome which only could be imagined, as well as the source of fairy magic and is important to them for every single fairy.

The power of the Aculos was activated using the incantation as followed:

"Carry me always,
Carry me well.
I am thy teacher of herb and spell.
I am thy link to power arcane,
Forget me and thy magic shall wane."

Role in the film[]

The Aculos was placed in Fowl Manor protected by Artemis Fowl Sr., who collected many fairy artifacts over the years. However, one day, Artemis Sr. was kidnapped by a mysterious figure known as Opal Koboi, who called Artemis Sr.'s son Artemis Jr. who demanded him to give her the Aculos so that his father could safely return.

Following the disappearance of the Aculos, this led to a crime of great concern within the fairy world, especially those affiliated with the L.E.P.RECON police force. When Artemis learned about the disappearance of his father in a plan to rescue him, he read a topic of the Aculos in one of his father's journal where he read about a fairy named Beechwood Short who swore to protect it. However, Holly Short, daughter of Beechwood, was kidnapped and placed into a cage where she revealed to Artemis that her father hid the Aculos, which some people called her father a criminal.

As expected, Artemis Fowl's plan began to proceed with the dwarf Mulch Diggums tunneling all the way to Fowl Manor where he explores the portrait gallery. Just as he explores the portrait gallery, he finds a portrait of Artemis' father in which behind it is a safe, which Mulch opens it to reveal the Aculos inside. Upon obtaining the Aculos, the Time Freeze started to collapse and Mulch swallowed the Aculos to protect it from the destabilization. Holly later returned and told Artemis that she was breaking every rule in the book. Upon using the power of the Aculos, she was able to activate its magic to bring Artemis' father back to Fowl Manor, much to Opal Koboi's rage. Artemis Jr. reunites with his father thanks to the magic spell which the Aculos granted. After Artemis Sr. was reunited with his son, Holly returned to Haven City where she is praised as a heroine with the Aculos restored and that Artemis Jr. called Opal Koboi, telling her that he and his family are planning to go after her associates.

Trivia[]

  • The Aculos was created exclusively for the Artemis Fowl film by Disney and does not appear in the original Artemis Fowl novels.
  • Due to the fact that all scenes related to the Ritual were removed in the final version of the film, the significance for the Aculos whose appearance takes the form of an upside-down acorn went unexplained.
