Mimicmon is a Mutant Digimon. It is a Champion Digimon thought to have mutated from security software used for protecting computer terminals.[1] At first, it appears to be little more than a rusted, abandoned old cage, but when it senses the presences of a Virus Digimon, a black haze materializes within the cell and a long, ghastly arm stretches out from between the bars.[2] As a result of capturing and taking in Virus-types that invade its territory similar to a trap, its own Attribute has become Virus as well. There are numerous Digimon sealed within its body, and the arms and horn coming out of its cage all originate from other Digimon. The weapon on its left arm "Dead Shot", its main equipment, is also loaded from the Digimon it has sealed, but its power has dropped dramatically due to the data being compressed.[1]

Attacks

  • Hinder Miasma: Deprives the enemy of their freedom with the mist released from its cage. Many Digimon that are immobilized by this technique are taken into Mimicmon's body.
  • Dead Shot

Design[]

Mimicmon's design is based on the cages from the early Digimon Virtual Pets[3], resembling the cages used in the Digimon Caged Figure series of toys. This cage houses a mysterious shadow creature inside it that has one single eye and several Digimon body parts with one of its arms ending in a flamethrower. It has a chained wrecking ball attached to the underside of its cage body. The DigiCode on the cage's tags reads ZIP (ZIP).

Etymologies[]

Mimicmon (ミミックモン)

Official romanization given by the Digimon Reference Book and used in the franchise.

Development[]

During development, Mimicmon's design was based on a barrel rather than a cage.[3] It was also designed based on an executioner. One of its in development designs was a humanoid beast wielding a sword and shield. Other designs lacked the ball/chain and gun, with it instead having claws.[4]

It was made Virus Attribute as V-pets and Games need Attribute balance.[3]

Its name during development was "Rebellimon" (リベリモン). The name was changed to Mimicmon as it was felt it better fit for the Mimic design. The name was later reused for Rebellimon.[4]
