- I've decided I'm not giving up on you, Luthor.
Superman (Volume 6) #3 is an issue of the series Superman (Volume 6) with a cover date of June, 2023. It was published on April 18, 2023.
Synopsis for "Chapter Three: A Leap of Faith"
As the horde of Parasites continues to run rampant across Metropolis, Superman, barely in control of his own mind and body, reluctantly agrees to release Lex from prison, as long as he provides a solution to the Parasite problem. He also releases another prisoner, Livewire, for Superman has a plan that involves using her as bait for the Parasites.
At Supercorp, Lex and Mercy hook Livewire into a machine that will connect her into Supercorp's power grid. As the building powers up, the Parasites stop their attack on Metropolis and converge to the building, including the microscopic Parasites that had infected Superman, who quickly puts on an airtight suit to avoid getting re-infected. Even Rudy Jones, the original Parasite, is already inside Supercorp, looking for a meal.
Superman allows Rudy to drain some of his powers so he can have enough strength to survive on his own but offers him a choice: Rudy can continue to absorb Superman's powers or devour the Parasites clones that have already consumed all of Metropolis' energy. Predictably, Rudy chooses to eat his own clones, leaving him so full and fat that Lex has no problem injecting him with a substance that incapacitates him. The crisis is over.
As the Superman Family and the Metropolis Police Department lead the recovery efforts, Clark goes back to check on the Daily Planet staff, making up the excuse that he was trapped in the bathroom during the Parasites' rampage. At the Kent apartment, Clark and Lois wonder what exactly is Lex planning by giving Clark control over his own company. Lois thinks that, whatever Lex's endgame is, it can't be good and Clark might be playing into Lex's hands. Even so, Clark believes he can use Supercorp to help people and, hopefully, stop Lex before he accomplishes his plans.
Superman goes to visit Lex in prison, thanking Lex for his help in stopping the Parasites and expressing surprise that Lex chose to return to his cell instead of using the Parasites' attack as an excuse to escape. Lex insists that he wants to help Superman and believes they can save the world together. Superman agrees to give Lex a chance to prove himself and departs from the prison, but not before giving Lex a small present: a signal watch, similar to the one used by Jimmy. He makes it to the Supercorp, ready to start his new job.
Meanwhile, at an undisclosed location, Drs. Pharm and Graft talk about this recent turn of events. Although the Parasite failed, the Secret Order of Mad Scientists is confident that their next target, the Silver Banshee, will have better luck in destroying Lex and anyone that might help him, including Superman.
