Mi-Sun Kwon also known as Nudge is a member of the Doom Patrol with powers of mind control and persuasion.
History
Nudge is usually seen working in tandem with her friend Grunt and the two young heroes share a sad past.
Henry Bucher and Kwon were classmates and Bucher developed a crush Kwon. One day, he was spying on her when she and some other teens were about to try a drug created by an unscrupulous doctor. Unbeknownst to the teens, the drug was meant to test those taking it so she could find an appropriate brain for her experiments. If the teen's brains were not strong enough, they would be rendered braindead. When the teens took the drug, the doctor monitored the situation remotely, but nearby. Kwon, who had secretly begun to develop mental powers, managed to survive the drug. However, during the test, she reached out to Bucherās mind and briefly linked minds with him. The doctor misinterpreted the information from her remote monitoring device and believed that Bucherās brain was the one she needed. She kidnapped Bucher. Meanwhile, the police arrived to arrest Kwon. Later, the doctor used Bucher in an experimental brain transplant procedure, where his brain was transplanted into the body of a physically enhanced four-armed gorilla. The procedure damaged Bucherās cerebral cortex specifically, the speech and memory centers of his brain. While Bucher was undergoing the procedure, the police were holding Kwon at the hospital and her father and mother visited her there. Kwonās father was angry with her and began to yell at her. In the middle of his tirade, he had a heart attack and died. Later, at her fatherās funeral, Kwonās brother accused her of being responsible for her fatherās death because he knew of her powers. After the funeral, Kwon ran away from home. Later, Bucher managed to escape killing his captors in the process.[1]
After some time, Kwon, who was living on the streets, found a travelling circus. She intended to apply for a job, but discovered the circus had a strange four-armed ape who they are treating cruelly. She used her powers to calm the ape, who she learned was called Grunt. The circus employed her as Gruntās trainer. Kwon was also given a job using her powers to tell fortunes.[2]
Nudge and Grunt experienced peace for a time until one fateful day when Kwon saw two mysterious individuals speaking to the circus boss. The boss was about to turn Grunt over to these two based upon a debt he owed them. Nudge interceded and uses her powers to make them take her with them. It was soon revealed the two individuals were Elasti-Girl and Robotman. They took Nudge and Grunt to the Chief who realized that Nudge had used her powers to manipulate the minds of Farr and Steele and have them bring her here, because he only wanted Grunt. Caulder activated a dampening field to nullify Nudgeās powers. However, Negative Man soon appeared in his form as the Negative Spirit. This caused Grunt to panic, and he attacked the Doom Patrol. The Patrol subdued Grunt and made him and Nudge their prisoners, purportedly for their safety. However, weeks later, Nudge was able to overcome the power dampener and manipulate Trainor to take the boat to shore. Nudge and Grunt stowed away on board and escaped. Unfortunately, they immediately were kidnapped by Crucifer. Crucifer used Nudge's powers to hypnotize metahuman children so he could kidnap them and use them to his own ends.
Later, after Crucifer's plans came to the attention of the Justice League of America and the Doom Patrol. Regretting her actions, She gave the League and the Patrol vital information which helped defeat Crucifer, and also assisted in the battle against The Tenth Circle.[3]
Nudge and Grunt then joined the Doom Patrol, along with Vortex.
Eventually, she was gunned down in action during a fight on Oolong Island.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Weaknesses
- Indomitable Will: People sufficiently trained in exercising their own willpower are able to overcome Nudge's suggestions. For example, although she was able to control the Man of Steel, her powers were useless against Green Lantern, and he was able to ignore her.[4]
