Quote1 Clark Kent is Superman... or I'm not the secret head of the Anti-Superman Gang! Now... I know what I'm talking about! For years, I've fooled everybody, including Superman, that I'm a good guy who gives money to charity! Quote2
— John Kiley src

John Kiley was a billionaire philanthropist who secretly led the Anti-Superman Gang at some point in time. He gambled everything on a ploy to confirm Superman's secret identity and destroy him, but he failed.

Being a longtime acquaintance of Clark Kent in urban Metropolis society, Kiley developed the suspicion that the externally presenting mild-mannered journalist was actually the civilian guise of his arch-nemesis, Superman. On a hunch, Kiley feigned being on his death bed and summoned Clark to his opulent manor estate to coax a confession out of him, to honor his "dying wish." Clark obliged and proved he was Superman by a demonstration of his powers. The satisfied trickster Kiley then arranged for Clark to be brought to one of his mines after his public funeral and trapped in a tunnel with an embedded Green Kryptonite deposit. However, Clark was saved through the timely arrival of Supergirl and the Superman Emergency Squad of Kandor. Kiley was exposed and sent to prison for attempted murder, racketeering, and faking his own death, but not before Superman fabricated an alibi for Clark's reveal of his alter ego, convincing Kiley due to Supergirl and the Emergency Squad's appearance that he was a victim of drug-induced hallucinations distorting his judgement. (The existence of Supergirl and the Superman Emergency Squad was a closely guarded secret of Superman at the time, so Kiley was made to believe he hallucinated Superman as a woman and Superman as a tiny version of himself, making the prospect of hallucinating Superman as Clark Kent more believable.) How Kiley reacted after Supergirl's existence was revealed by Superman to the public is unknown, but it is possible he put two and two together and realized that Clark truly was Superman. In any event, he lost his leadership position in the Anti-Superman Gang upon his arrest and was replaced by the gang's next attempt to bedevil the Man of Steel.
