Synopsis for "Chapter Twenty One"

Mecha Superman starts wildly attacking the Metallos upon learning their name, stating that they shouldn't exist. The Arcane Green Lantern and Lord Zod realize something is wrong with him, with Zatanna of Earth-13 telling them that an old painful memory is behind his rage. Cyborg states that it may be because Superman and Metallo of their universe have a history of conflict, but Batman believes it's something entirely different. The Mecha Superman continues attacking the Metallos, stating they're only supposed to be an imaginary figure Clark dreamt up and he would never want them to be real. A thunderous smash sends them all reeling and they all withdraw after realizing they're overmatched.

Batman tries comforting Superman and asks whether the Metallo was really just an imaginary figure on his world. Superman affirms and states Clark made him up, so he could learn to be the hero "Superman". Batman realizes he never thought that they could be real and states he thinks everything may be real somewhere in the multiverse. Upon learning that Clark is already dead, he tells Superman that he would be proud of him. Superman states he hopes he would, and upon confirming that the battle is not finished, tells him that they should prepare to face their foe again. Cyborg then informs that the other team has seemingly found the Monitor's corpse. Arcane Supergirl states that the Monitor cannot be dead and she detected someone else, though the body is of the real one.

Kara points her team to where she detected the Monitor, before Lex informs them about Batman's message instructing them to continue exploring, and warning them about the dangerous soldiers their enemy is deploying. Despite the turn of events, Wonder Woman states that they can't turn back, and they soon arrive at the Axis Tower, the center of Nil. Entering it, they find another corpse of the monitor, before Wonder Woman and Flash decide to explore the insides alone. As Lex waits outside with others, he detects a storm and warns Catwoman. Arriving in the room containing the multiverse, Barry wonders whether they're late. A mysterious figure however reveals himself and they become surprised upon seeing him.

Outside the Axis Tower, Supergirl discovers that the storm is not natural, and Lex reveals that he believes it is an atmospheric disruption being caused by their enemy opening a bigger portal to transport his forces towards Nil. Lex tells Supergirl and Catwoman to get ready, but they soon get hit by a strong gust. They soon get dumbfounded at the size of the army stepping through the portal and view a monstrous being, who Lex recognizes as Brainiac.
