Synopsis for "The Inheritance!"

Krista X wants to turn in her ring to protest the Guardians' treatment of Hal Jordan. In reply, the Guardians tell her of a Green Lantern who died in a war, and his son, who took his place but was forbidden to take vengeance.

In the tale, the planet Arden gets invaded by a Z'nang warship and its army of robots. Green Lantern Monak intercepts the invasion and defends his home. However, the robots surround and incapacitate him, killing his wife, who was heading to his rescue. Monak uses his last moments of life to destroy the surrounding robots and pass his ring to his son, Meeno. Filled with anger, the new Green Lantern attacks and destroys the retreating warship, and then heads to the planet they originated from, Z'nang. On his way, a Guardian appears and commands him to desist, saying he is not prepared to face the incoming threat. But Meeno ignores his superior and heads straight to the planet. Later, the Guardians send three Green Lanterns to ensure that he does not commit any devastating mistake.
On Z'nang, the people are ruled by the totalitarian force of the H'od, with Korhalem as their dictator. Meeno reaches the warships flying above the planet, and he gets outnumbered rather quickly. Instead of retreating, he changes his plan of action: he grabs a nearby comet and hurls it against the planet to destroy his enemies. The Guardian appears again and shows him that he not only doomed his enemies, but also innocent bystanders oppressed by their ruler. Meeno now realizes the fatal mistake he commited, and he immediately rushes to stop the comet and redirect it again. He succeeds, but while doing so, he gets shot by some Z'nang forces and ends badly wounded. Meeno drifts unconscious in space while three Green Lanterns mourn their fallen comrade. The ruler Korhalem remains unbeaten in Z'nang, but Meeno's ring flies away from his previous possessor, and finds his new wielder in the hand of a prisoner who will fight for the freedom of his people.

Hal Jordan wakes up from his psychodramatic test, and the Guardians give him permission to dismiss. Hal lashes out, demanding another reply rather than an "don't call us, we'll call you," specially with his current exiled status. Hal then meets Krista again, who explains she also played her part in the test. She then asks why does their masters have to test the Green Lanterns like that, and Hal replies that those are occupational hazard he learned to live with, and if he had to do it all over again, he would.
