Blanche is a United States Military general and enemy of the Doom Patrol.
History
Blanche once served as test pilot Larry Trainor's commanding officer, and by the time of the Lazarus Event was head of an isolated underground military installation. When Simon Choe, a soldier under his command, demonstrated metahuman abilities, captured his one-time fellows, and overwhelmed the facility with fungal growths, Blanche sent in additional forces to regain control. Meeting with no success, he reached out to Metahuman superhero team the Doom Patrol through now-member Trainor to rescue his forces, threatening to destroy the facility with Choe inside once his men were clear. Though the general's callousness towards Metahumans caused tension with the heroes, they were briefed and agreed to rescue all present for Choe's sake. However, Blanche in reality sought to put the Metahuman's abilities into the service of the United States of America, attempting to seize him from the returning Doom Patrol at gunpoint. Though the general came to admit he was outmatched by the group and allowed them to pass, he threatened retaliation against the heroes.[1]
To do so, Blanche directed Peacemaker to infiltrate the Doom Patrol with a mole, drawn from Task Force X's espionage unit.[2] Though the general believed the operative to be a humanoid known as "Worm," and was angered when Peacemaker was forced to terminate the reticent metahuman, he discovered to his surprise that Worm was a mere construct, and that his creator and the true infiltrator, the worm-like Velvet, had passed into the Doom Patrol's ranks unsuspected.[3]
