Terror is a 2004 Batman storyline written by A.J. Lieberman with art by Al Barrionuevo, published in Batman: Gotham Knights (Volume 1).

Synopsis

The story begins with many members of Gotham's social elite. Everyone is shocked when they see the The Riddler fall through the roof. The story goes back to a week before the Riddler fell through the roof at a party. A muscular man is seen lurking in a swamp. Bruce Wayne is seen at a party communicating with Oracleto try and find out information about the guests. He spots a woman resembling the late Vesper Fairchild leave the party. Bruce changes into his Batman attire to follow her. "Vesper" leaves in a car with a mysterious man. Batman follows them. The man throws "Vesper" out of the car into an oncoming truck. Batman saves her in the belief that she is Vesper. After Batman leaves her in a building to recover she phones a man and tells him she did what he payed her to do. We then see the Riddler in Blackgate Prison with a few inmates. The Riddler tells an inmate called Sully that if you never take a risk you get absolutely nothin'. Three hunters in a swamp are talking until they come up to a hut. They find pictures of Bruce Wayne, Robin, Harley Quinn, The Joker, The Riddler, Batman, Poison Ivy, Huntress, Catwoman and another photo. A hunter named Johnny attempts to escape but he is shot by an unseen figure. Another hunter's chest is sliced by a blade. The last hunter attempts to escape in their speedboat. He doesn't see the muscular man come up behind him and kill him. Two days later, a doctor hires a mechanic to fix a mysterious machine in the pediatric wing. At Blackgate, a man visits the Riddler and tells him he has three days left to live. The next day, a bus outside Blackgate says that the Riddler has two days left to live. The Riddler bribes a prison guard to send a message from him to The Joker. The Joker is seen looking at photos of his late wife in his lair. The prison guard delivers the Riddler's message to him. The muscular man then burns down his hut with the dead bodies of the hunters inside it. The Joker asks the warden of Blackgate to transfer the Riddler from Blackgate or he'll blackmail him with a videotape he has. The police then transfer the Riddler from Blackgate. In the Batcave, Batman and Robin are investigating the car that "Vesper" was in. According to all the cameras nearby "Vesper" never existed. Batman then follows the Riddler's police
