History

Pre-series

Rystal, Lucius, and Gibeon, the original Explorers

100 years prior to the events of the series, Rystal came across Terapagos that she found in Paldea's Great Crater and followed her around, as she happily caught it and nicknamed it Pagogo. One day, Rystal was running away in a town from some thieves that wanted Terapagos until she was rescued by Lucius and his Black Rayquaza. Hearing Lucius's intentions to travel to a mysterious Pokémon paradise named Laqua and grateful to him for saving her, Rystal decided to join him on his adventure, which he accepted. During their journey, Rystal and Lucius meet all kinds of Pokémon, as they ended up joining them on their journey and became known as the Six Heroes. Eventually, Rystal and Lucius fell in love and got married. While looking for leads on Laqua, Rystal and Lucius meet a man named Gibeon, as he joined them on their journey. Later, they co-founded the group known as the Explorers, but Rystal became pregnant with her and Lucius's child. Together, they traveled through various Regions until they found Laqua. However, the three discovered a crystal called Laquium. Rystal and Lucius wanted to leave the Laquium alone, but Gibeon decided to dig it out. Seeing how it effected the wild Pokémon, Rystal and Lucius, with the help of their partners, were able to seal the Laquium away, but at the cost of Gibeon falling, Lucius becoming one with Laqua, the Six Heroes being scattered around the world and Terapagos going into slumber in the form of a pendant. Rystal was devestated to have lost everyone she cared about, and the Explorers disbanded, as she left Laqua.

Younger Rystal

Upon returning to civilization, Rystal settled into a normal life where she raised her and Lucius's child, as she had a daughter named Leila. Rystal chose not to tell Leila about Lucius out of fear she would follow in their footsteps. Rystal would later pass away under unknown circumstances when Leila was very young, leaving the girl orphaned and mostly unaware of her parents' legacy.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Rystal was first mentioned in HZ073 during a flashback of Lucius' journey.

In HZ074, Rystal and her then baby daughter Leila were summoned to the Crystal Pool by the Rising Volt Tacklers and her Terapagos. She was surprised by this phenomenon and how Lucius's Pokemon are with the group. Upon hearing Friede and Liko out, she understood their goals and explained the history of the Explorers, her relationship with Lucius and Gibeon and the adventures they went on to find Laqua. She also revealed that she was Terapagos's original trainer.

Upon revealing her baby daughter's name when comforting her, Diana recognized Leila as her mother's name, revealing that Rystal and Lucius are actually Liko's great great grandparents, shocking the whole group, including Rystal at this revelation.

In HZ075, Rystal told the group the story of the Explorers including the incident in Laqua. After the story, Friede asks her where Laqua is, but she doesn't know. As Rystal feels that her time in the future is running out, she entrusts Terapagos to Liko and says her goodbyes before being sent back to her time, much to Terapagos's sadness.

Character

Rystal has a friendly, adventurous and kind hearted personality, she is also a caring parent as seen with her daughter Leila. Rystal has a short temper like Diana as it was shown she does not take kindly to being called a great great grandmother, nor when she and Lucius are mocked for believing in Laqua. Just like her descendants, Rystal is compassionate towards Pokemon such as her former partner Terapagos, who she endearingly nicknamed Pagogo.

Terapagos, which Rystal refers to by the nickname (Japanese: パゴゴ Pagogo), is her only known Pokémon. She found it in Paldea's great crater and started protecting it from thieves. Since then, she started travelling alongside it.

Years after her death in HZ074, Terapagos summoned her from the past at the Crystal Pool, but in HZ075, she entrusted Terapagos to her great-great-granddaughter Liko before returning to her original time, which brought tears to Terapagos's eyes.
