History
Pre-series
As revealed in The Bittersweet Truth, Murdock used to work as a team with Mitchell, selling cakes with the help of his Milcery. Using Milcery's cream, they were able to make abundance of cakes, Murdock preferred strawberry flavor, whilst Mitchell prefers matcha flavor. Though there was a slight rivalry between them, they both took it lightheartedly. One day, Murdock found out that Milcery evolved into Alcremie, after she grabbed a Strawberry Sweet then spun herself around. Murdock was happy for his Alcremie because he can make Strawberry Ruby Swirl decorated cakes, but Mitchell wasn't because he couldn't make matcha flavor with Alcremie, which led him to resent her. After getting into an argument with Mitchell, Murdock ended his partnership with him and their relationship became strained.
Eventually, Murdock joined the Rising Volt Tacklers when he decided to use his cooking skills to make everyone happy where he became friends with Friede, Captain Pikachu, Orla, Ludlow, Mollie, and Sohdayo. However, Murdock and the group find out that Sohdayo left the team in order to become a journalist. Sometime after Sohdayo left, Murdock took in his niece Dot when she joined the Rising Volt Tacklers. He was tasked with keeping his younger sister and Dot's mother, Franka, up-to-date about Dot's life aboard the Brave Olivine, although he'd occasionally find himself unable to keep up with his sister's pace.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Murdock debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One) alongside the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers. He and his teammates were searching for Liko at Indigo Academy but to no avail. In the following episode, he met and introduced himself to Liko aboard the Brave Olivine. He later took over the wheel from Friede when the Explorers' infiltrated the airship.
In For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, Murdock, his Rockruff, and Friede went to the nearest town to go looking for the Explorers, who had kidnapped Liko's Sprigatito. Due to Rockruff's strong sense of smell, they quickly managed to detect an undercover Onia due to her still having some of Sprigatito's scent in her body. As Liko joined them in the chase, Murdock decided to stay behind to help some townspeople who were knocked over by Onia. At the end of the day, Murdock and the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers took Liko as one of their own.
In Found You, Fuecoco!, Murdock briefly battled alongside Orla against Zirc and Onia. As Roy approached alongside a group of Bug-type wild Pokémon, they ran back to the Brave Olivine to fix its balloon gasbag, leaving Mollie to face off against Zirc.
In The Door That Never Opens, it was revealed that Murdock and Friede had teamed up in order to get Dot to eat some sweets since she only ate the very essentials for a day. Every night, he left a box of donuts in a cupboard for his niece to take, but she never interacted with this food. A few nights later, after Liko insisted on approaching Dot, Murdock discovered that his niece finally decided to eat the sweets.
In An Unexpected Picnic!, Murdock helped Liko set up a picnic for Dot and Ludlow at Brave Olivine. When his niece sent Liko a photo dressed as Nidothing, Murdock told Friede that Dot should be the one to tell Liko the truth about Nidothing's identity. Soon after, Murdock and Friede talked about being proud of their growth since they started traveling with them. In the next episode, Murdock took Liko out shopping, thanking her for everything she had done for Dot. Later, when Roy trained a wild Wattrel, he tracked the progress the boy made. The next day, Murdock gave Roy a Poké Ball so that the little Storm Petrel Pokémon could join his team.
In Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Murdock was asked by Dot and her friends as to how Captain Pikachu was able to fly during his battle against Roy in the previous episode, but couldn’t give them an answer because he didn't know himself. However, Murdock did become curious and he decided to help the younger members get an answer from Friede, which they were able to do as he tells them how he met Captain Pikachu and the formation of the Rising Volt Tacklers.
In The Bittersweet Truth, Murdock visited the Battle Café in Motostoke with Liko and Roy where he reunited with Mitchell. Through a suggestion from Liko, Murdock and Mitchell decided to do a Double Battle, but it ended up turning into a bake-off. During the bake-off, Murdock and Mitchell settled their differences and became friends again.
In Song Within the Mist, Murdock joined Mollie in helping Friede in his plan to lure a Lapras, who happened to be one of Lucius's Pokémon, after they got a led through a ship crew that saw the Transport Pokémon, to come to them by bringing out their storage of Pokémon food. When the planed worked, Murdock and Mollie saw two Pokémon on crates that stored their Pokémon food. In the next episode, Murdock attempted to keep the Pokémon from stealing their food until Diana arrived to help.
In Respective Departures, Murdock attended a surprise party for Diana, as she was planning to resume traveling alone. Once they bid farewell to Diana, the Rising Volt Tacklers resumed their search for the remaining Six Heroes. However, Murdock was informed by Friede that they were heading to Paldea first in order to gain information on Terapagos.
In Tinkatink's Ideal Hammer, upon seeing that Dot wanted to go to a nearby town to buy a new microphone, Murdock was against it, being quite happy for her safe return. After a chase after a Orthworm that destroyed the Brave Olivine's hardware, he witnessed Dot's bravery in defending the ship and her catching a new friend. Seeing the situation from afar, Murdock began to cry with happiness at the growth of his beloved niece.
In A Wild Mom Appears!, Franka was picked up by Friede and came to visit the Rising Volt Tacklers in person. On her way, she tried to message Murdock and Dot, but they were sidetracked by a commotion caused by Dot's Tinkatink, causing them to leave her on read. While she briefly grilled the two over this, she quickly got sidetracked and moved on. After Dot disappeared, Murdock tried to help Franka find the best way to get Dot to open up to her. Later, when Franka challenged Dot to a battle, Murdock watched the battle with the other members. After Dot managed to win the battle, he helped his sister's Lycanroc recover.
In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, Murdock helped transport Dot to a location close enough for her to shut down a machine the Explorers were using to weaken the Black Rayquaza. Their efforts worked, only for Coral to lose her temper and command her Glalie to use Self-Destruct. The attack collided with Rayquaza's Dragon Pulse, creating an explosion powerful enough to blast the Sky High Pokémon directly into the hull of the Brave Olivine. In the following episode, Murdock successfully docked the ship in a safe location while the Explorers retreated, realizing their plan ended in failure. After Rayquaza took off, the Rising Volt Tacklers regrouped. While the Brave Olivine underwent repairs, Liko, Roy, and Dot decided to become stronger by learning how to use the Terastal phenomenon.
In HZ046, it was revealed that Murdock started working part-time at the Patisserie Soapberry in Cortondo while Orla worked on the Brave Olivine. He later received a message from Liko about her, Roy, and Dot's experiences at Naranja Academy.
In HZ047, Murdock reunited with Liko, Roy, and Dot at the Patisserie Soapberry, where he introduced them to Katy, the shop owner and Gym Leader of Cortondo. Later, he witnessed Liko's first Terastal battle against Katy.
Character
Murdock is a caring person. As seen in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, he likes to shower his Pokémon with affection and praises them. Murdock is also mindful to his teammates, such as when he asked Liko whether or not she have any allergies or food she dislikes right after she decided to join the Rising Volt Tacklers. Not only is he skilled at cooking, but at sewing too, to the point of Orla asking him to fix the patches on the blimp. Although he's good at cooking various things, Murdock preferred making sweets, due to once being a patisserie chef, and usually uses his Alcremie to make them.
Despite trying his best, Murdock has a rather strained relationship with Dot, where he would be worried or nags, almost to the point that she was close to blocking him from communicating with her. However, Murdock did became motivated to try specific approaches to dealing with Dot's withdrawal and indifference to other team members. Murdock also seems to be happy that Dot became friends with Liko and Roy, due to them being around her age. In The Lonely Hatenna, Murdock had his first small personal interaction with Dot in months, which for him was a victory, even though they only exchanged a few words. In addition, Murdock seems to be fond of Liko and Roy as he enjoys their company in shopping for supplies. Murdock seems to be great friends with Friede and get along well, but tends to get annoyed with him when he forgets to give important details to him and their friends. Murdock is also good friends with the rest of his teammates.
Pokémon
Murdock's team consists of Pokémon who help him in the kitchen, such as his Alcremie. Also, Murdock's Pokémon are good in battle, but sometimes can get overwhelm by stronger opponents. In addition, Murdock would only use his Rockruff for its sense of smell to help him find lost individuals and Pokémon battles.
